Ottomans on casters provided additional seating and comfort.
Hanging lights from chains…different style table lamps…chrome…walnut wood and clean lines dominate this era.
The Draper’s sure have an amazing penthouse view!
This dynamic couple’s kitchen is an open area that you can view from the living room…once again…clean lines and an interesting array of colors…
Now let’s turn the clock back a few seasons and take a look at the kitchen style that Don once shared with Betty!
As you can see…this style has a totally different feel…the 60’s decor was constantly changing as was their fashions!
There is one element in the old Draper home that designers to this day are always trying to recreate…this padded tufted headboard…
Let’s take a look at some versions of this infamous piece…
Here is a modern day rendition.
This cushy, plush creation can be made easily with the incredible step by step tutorial courtesy of
Apartment Therapy
here is what it looks like when completed…
This is a wonderful version of the tufted headboard…
There are just so many available to you…in every color and shape!
So maybe a little Mad Men decadent style is in your future.
Here’s a little taste of the office life…check out this board room…I do have to say that it just might fit into today’s styling…we are going to have to wait to see what the new agency has in store for us in flair! Can’t wait! I wonder if Joan will be involved in the designing?
The office space here is composed of sleek lines…
If you were ever considering recreating an office space from this era… here is a wonderful idea board from
Pretty Little Green Things
An awesome collection.
Now we are going do leave the set of Mad Men and explore different aspects of the “style”…I for one can’t wait to see what is new on the set of Mad Men Season 6.
House Beautiful
has an amazing section focusing on this time period of design.
First we are going to take a peek at House Beautiful Archives…pages straight from their publication in the 60’s and then take a look at updated versions of the style that are really remarkable.
Now, House Beautiful shares with us a updated spin on a retro style.
One thing is for sure…I favor the new color scheme…clean…crisp and bright.
Four poster bed, 60’s style wall paper and Eames style chairs
give this updated space it’s personality.
By taking elements of the 60’s and combining them with a monochromatic color scheme…a freshness takes over the style.
The tufted look owns this room…a bit over the top for me…but pretty awesome to look at!
This kitchen sure reflects the style of the later 60’s but has a modern twist that is bright…airy and stylish.
House Beautiful really shows us what was and what what was can be…say that 10 times fast.
Hope you enjoyed it and for more…give HB a visit…there is always so much to see there.
Here are a few Mad Men elements that are new and fresh but still have the Don Draper look…
here is a modern take on the Raindrops Mirror
How about this classic Dorset Sofa
This is a timeless style.
This Palma Table Lamp is an interesting addition if you are trying to capture that 60’s touch.
How about this for a perfect accessory…
For some reason…I love this new spin on Eames chair design…this can be mixed into any style room and give it a fresh funky.
Well this is a post that could go on for ever.
Hope you enjoyed a little taste of the 1960’s Mad Men style!
Should be very interesting to see what flair the new season shows us…I don’t think that I will ever follow this design path in my own decorating but I do think that I might sprinkle a few elements into it. I do however love looking at it and seeing this time period come to life.
The cast of Mad Men invites you all to enjoy the start of Season 6 with a 2 hour premier tonight at 9pm on AMC.
If you love the 60’s fashion scene…take a look at yesterday’s

Great images, Andrea. I LOVED last night’s episode; did you? It’s been fun to see the styles — both interiors and fashion — evolve with each season. And yes, the blue padded headboard became an instant classic, didn’t it? I admit I have a beige one myself. 😉
