Need a quick and easy Holiday gift diy? One that will look like you went over the top? A piece that is made especially for a special person or family in mind? Something that would get an ooooo and an ahhhhhhhh! Then I truly have one of the easiest…quickest…high end looking diy project you ever saw…it takes…5 minutes…do I have your attention : )
Truth be told…we happened upon a wonderful pile of vintage tiles. We have found many tiles at Flea Markets…Good Will…and other Thrift Shops but never really too notice! There was just something about these though…they had a look…a feel…a style and then the light bulb went off…they were soooooo Anthroopologie!  If one of their buyers found a stock pile of these unique pieces…they would buy them all up and you would see them in their catalog…I guarantee you! So…without knowing what to do with them since they don’t fit our decor as a group…we took them home.  Well then my fabulous friends…(Gina, Ashley, Karianne & Laura} and myself got together to bring you some quick and easy appetizers…gifts and wrapping. Then it all came together…who wouldn’t want to get a beautiful house number for a gift..hey a great excuse to change up your outside decor! Plus they would look awesome as wall art too…so I knew that was what I was going to share with you. I mean it…it takes 5 minutes from start to finish.
All you need is a tile or tiles (they don’t have to be vintage…they can be any design…any size but I am partial to the ceramic ones. Just to give you the head-up…many tiles stores will sell you individual tiles…so just think of the possibilities! You can also create one on a plate…your favorite pattern…vintage china…a fabulous one of a kind at your favorite store…the sky is the limit! The hardest part of this project is picking the piece! Then you need the number or numbers…if you can find vintage…Fabulous…if you can’t…they are everywhere…I happen to get mine at Home Depot but you can find them in all the stores and they are inexpensive!   Now all you will need is a wire clipper…Ubber strong glue and a hanger!
This is the only tricky part…since you are not nailing the number into the tile…you have to snip it short so you can glue the little nail head into the hole so it is not open…just snip…glue…press and let dry.
Now it is time to glue the house numbers on the tile…now just realize that there are black ones…gold ones…silver ones…white ones…embossed ones…smooth ones…fancy ones…plain ones…and the list goes on and of course if they don’t have the color you want…that is the job for spray paint!!!! I wanted simple gold letters and that was a piece of cake…I felt guilty that I wasn’t even changing the color…so I though about brushed gold…but the high gloss really worked the best…so all I had to do was apply a good layer of glue to the back of the numbers…put in place…pressed on them for about 30 seconds…then released my hand…let dry for 30 minutes and it was ready for hanging! Personally I would rather it sit for 24 houses : ) When I glued the numbers on…I also attached the back hanger. Now if you would rather use twine or a fine chain that’s great too…but I actually really enjoy the simplicity and elegance of this look!
All there is left to do is wrap it (we will get into that on Friday)…give it as a gift and then it will take a proud place on the home when it is time to hang out! What do you think? Told you it would look like it walked out of Anthropology!
So what do you think? Is this a quick and easy Holiday gift DIY or what! Remember…you can use so many other bases…if they person you are thinking of does not have a house you can make them for wall art…like the number of people in the family…a birthday date…anniversary date…any special date. You can put initials on them…the list goes on and WOW you can create some great sets if you want to go further! This is truly easy but yields a high end look that your family and friends are really going to enjoy! I had fun upcycling with these fabulous vintage tiles…but I would love to have a try at picking out some tiles for wall art in the Dining Room! Oh the possibilities…hope you explore them all!
