Valentine’s Day is right around the corner…wouldn’t this be a nice surprise for the family
If you don’t have time in the morning…how about serving one of these yummy treats for dessert!
A little bit of drizzled chocolate and fresh beautiful strawberries are a guaranteed smile!
One thing is for sure…the lucky people on the receiving end of this delicious treat are going to give you a big hug!
Ingredients:
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup of whole milk (you can use all whole milk if you don’t want to use cream: )
1/2 cup of AP flour
1/3 cup of sugar
3 large eggs (room temperature)
1 tablespoon of cocoa powder (we are going to use 1/4th of the batter and blend the cocoa powder in so we can marble the pancake)
1/4 teaspoon of sea salt
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla
3 tablespoons of butter
confectioner’s sugar for sprinkling
Chocolate of your choice for melting and Berries of your choice*
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. The easiest method is to use your blender. All you have to do is combine the flour, salt, vanilla, milk, eggs and sugar and whip up until the mixture is foamy. Approximately 1 – 2 minutes. While that is blending…melt your butter in a 9 – 10 inch cast iron skillet. Then reserve 1/4 cup of the batter and pour the rest of the batter into the hot melted butter skillet. Put the reserved batter into the blender and add the cocoa powder and whip up for a few seconds …then drizzle it over the top of the batter in a random pattern and POP into the over for 20 minutes. Just keep an eye on it so it doesn’t burn. You will see it rise and curl and form it’s own wonderful look. When it is done…take it out…drizzle with melted chocolate…add your strawberries…sprinkle with confectioners sugar and serve it immediately! You can also add some condiments to the table like strawberry syrup…maple syrup…customize any way you would like! You can easily omit the chocolate swirl batter and just make it vanilla or you could add a 1/4 cup of cocoa to the mixture and make it chocolate! A savory dutch baby is the next one on my list to make! ENJOY! If you don’t have a skillet you can use a baking tin! Heads up…I have to admit that this is the first dutch baby I have ever had and if you are a newbie like me…the edges are a little crisp and fluffy and the center is a bit more dense…wanted you to know that : ) Oh and by the way…it is this easy!!!
Bon Appetit!

*to make a strawberry fan…simply wash and dry your strawberries and the cut thin slices into the strawberry and stop just before you get to the hull…repeat about 5 slices and then gently fan them out! EZ Peazy!
