The warmer weather is on the way and soon there will be no need for our coats …short sleeves will become the norm and I thought I would celebrate this thought with creating another fun hand painted wooden bead necklace…on this time…this is more of a DIY Statement Necklace…a bit larger and bolder than this one and this one!I wanted it to be a bit more BOLD but fun! So I purchased the largest wooden beads they had on the shelf …brought them home and had some fun. All you will need is:
You favorite color paints…Mod Podge…nice necklace cord of your choice or maybe you would like ribbon…a brush and your beads. The beads are available in your local Craft store…Michaels…etc.
Let’s start with the glittered bead…was looking for a little disco ball look! All you have to do is coat the bead in Mod Podge…then roll it in the glitter till everything is covered…then let it dry. Once it is dry you will will check to see if there are any missed spots and fill them in. Then put a thin coat of Mod Podge over the entire bead and allow to dry…repeat. This will seal the glitter so it all doesn’t shed. Of course you might get a tiny bit of glitter dust…but it is all good : )
Now it is time to paint! I really like to use a dowel to hold my bead. This way there are no worries of getting finger prints on the bead…it simply makes life a lot easier! Paint with your favorite colors and if you want to add a design…it is really easy. Here’s a tip if you want polka dots. Base coat your bead…let it try and then take the flat end of a skewer…dip it lightly into the color paint you want the polka dots to be and gently press it onto you bead…repeat until your polka dots are every where you want them to be. If you are going to go with the Kate Spade look …half wood…half color…tape off one half of the bead and paint the exposed half…allow the bead to dry and then peel off the tape…nice clean lines and NO aggravation! Enjoy this part…it’s fun.
Once you have your beads prepared…grab a skewer and play with the order you want you beads to fall into! Once you know…then it is time to…
thread your necklace…then measure the length you need it…tie a decorative knot and then trim…Voila!
Now just think of all the color combinations…the glitter…the metallic paints…you can add little washers or beads in between each bead…the possibilities are endless!
This Statement Necklace DIY is so quick and easy you can make a statement necklace for you…your friends and family all in an afternoon! These look great and they make fabulous gifts for all kinds of occasions! Hope you enjoyed this Quick and Easy Craft! see you later!
