It’s all about your Dogs Paws today. Just like our hands get dry and crackly in the Winter Months (and we don’t walk on them : ) so does your furry friends! So why not take care of those doggy pads the right way with a Nutrient Rich Dog Balm that will make those little tootsies soft and make your pup feel so much better. This balm is fabulous for the Summer also, sometimes walking on that heated pavement can be harsh and treating the paws before and after is a fabulous thing. It’s always a great thing to try to avoid hot pavements whenever possible. There are many breeds of dogs that also need a balm for their snouts…especially Pugs…Bulldogs and all of those that have the short wrinkly snout. This balm can be used for snouts as well as paws so it does double duty. A really good Dog Balm can be a bit expensive so why not make a batch yourself…it is so incredibly easy and it works like a charm! We even have a Free Printable Label to top it off with. It’s great for gifts or just to share with furry friends you adore and love. So come on in and check out the crazy easy DIY Dog Balm.

You won’t believe how simple this Dog Balm is to make. You will use it often. Not only does it help protect the doggie from icy/snowy conditions it helps with hot pavements…gravel paths…outdoor elements especially if your pup loves to hike with you and any other tough terrain your pup ventures on.

The balm is so easy to apply. Just take a little dab with your finger and then rub it into the pad just like you would rub lotion into your hands. Let it dry for a minute and then the paw has a protection that will help keep the paws nice and healthy. Georgia and Alie love their balm and it gives them puppy paws!

–
I have to tell you …if your pup happens to have a cut on their paw please do not apply the balm until it is healed : )
–
–
Now all that is left to do is whip up a batch and believe it or not it is going to take you probably about 10 minutes all together!
–
–
When you are finished just allow to cool…print your label out …place it on the top of a 4 ounce mini Mason Jar and you are done! We also provide a large Mason Jar Label because if you have a large doggy using the large wide mouth jars is a great thing!

I assume if my dog licks her paws it won’t effect her
Thanks
Andrea says
Hi there Donna! : ) How are you. You are absolutely correct…this balm is totally NOT TOXIC. If you ever see one made with Cocoa Butter…that is one never to make. This is totally SAFE : ) I use it on my own doggies : ) Sending wishes for a wonderful New Year to you and your fabulous pup! Hugs…

May I ask where do you get 2 Tablespoons of beeswax?
One Delightful Life says
So often you see DIY recipes for dog shampoo but never a balm. A great idea to soften one’s pet paws! Thanks.
Dave says
Sadie has hyperkeratosis on her nose because she was abandoned and get badly sunburned. Do you think the balm will help soften it up? We’ve tried straight Vitamin E oil but she licks it off. Thanks!!
Andrea says
Hi there Dave how are you. First…THANK YOU SO MUCH for saving Sadie! That is so wonderful and believe me…Sadie will pay you TEN FOLD with tons of hugs…love…wet nose and little licks! Rescue is so very important to me and my family and we support many… THANK YOU and Sadie…here’s wishing you the best life ever with your new Daddy! Dave…I do believe that this balm could help…I have just done some reading on hyperkeratosis and I know that it would not hurt…they recommend a bunch of different balms on line for the condition and this is just as good if not better than many. It is really easy to make and the supplies stay fresh for a LONG time as long as you store them tightly (I use a Mason Jars). I sure hope this helps little Sadie…the one thing you have to be very careful of is that it doesn’t get infected…the site of infection…you have to see Sadie’s Vet right away. Here’s wishing you and Sadie an amazing new life together! Have a fabulous weekend…hugs…andrea
Liza says
This looks easy! Can I use plastic containers or would it melt? I was unable to find only shea butter. I found one with Frankincense and Myrrh. No good?? Please let me know. Thank you!
Andrea says
Hi there Liza! How are you : ) It is very very easy to make and it works wonderfully all year round : ) I would highly recommend you use glass or a metal container…I would not want to see the plastic melt on you unless it is really hard plastic. Also…the Shea Butter is very important in the way the balm works. I used: https://smile.amazon.com/Molivera-Organics-African-Organic-Natural/dp/B00CHMWAY8/ref=sr_1_11_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1500634220&sr=1-11&keywords=shea+butter You can go on Amazon and put in Shea Butter and there are a million and one choices : ) Sure hope this helps…if you need any more help…don’t hesitate to email me at TheCottageMarket@gmail.com Have an amazing weekend! Hugs…

Hi there, I am contacting you from Kent in the UK, l love this website, so many brilliant ideas. I was wondering how long the ‘Dog Balm’ will last?
Many thanks
Andrea says
Hi there Andrea! So fabulous to have a wonderful reader/friend from Across the Pond! My daughter is actually on her way to London on Saturday : ) As far as the Dog Balm in concerned…if kept in a cool place it could really last a very long time… but personally I would keep it for a year and it would then be time to make a new batch : ) Hope that helps… my dogs love it and it keeps their pads so soft and healthy. Here’s wishing you a wonderful day! Hugs and Cheers!
Cindy says
Hello! I’ve been looking for a balm to make for my dog’s little paws and I’m excited for this recipe as I have all the ingredients. I’ve never used a balm, but think his paws would benefit from it. I’m just wondering if it leaves greasy paw tracks. Thanks for sharing your recipe! ????
Andrea says
Hi there Cindy! How are you. I can tell you first hand that this balm works beautifully! I not only use it on my two beautiful rescue sisters Ali and Georgia… but I make a 6 month supply at a time for my Local Animal Shelter and they LOVE IT!!! It is not greasy and does not leave paw tracks as long as you apply sparingly and rub it into the paws (we give them a little massage with it : ) It is great for dry paws… paws that have been through the elements… rough paws and great for maintenance… just like we apply hand cream. There is NO problem in case the pup licks his paws and that is always a wonderful thing! If your dog has a little dry spot on his coat… you can apply a little dab of this regularly till it heals. I really think you will enjoy it and if I can be totally honest… it is great on human hands and dry spots that happen on the elbows and such! Hope you enjoy and here’s to smooth paws! Take care and have an amazing day! Hugs to you and your Pups!
Valerie says
do you think I can add cocoa butter in a very small amount. only for the smell!
Andrea says
Hi there Valerie! How are you! I have to say that I think that in small increments it would be fine : ) Let me know how it turns out… can’t wait to hear. Here’s wishing you a wonderful dau! Take care… hugs and hugs to your pups!
Denise Cox says
Do i actually need to ‘ sterilize’ the jars before using, just add you would before caning?

This stuff is GREAT!!!! I even made it for Christmas gifts a few years ago. It was a BIG hit. The only problem was my dog, Henry’s paws were so soft while my hands were so rough, I had to use it too at night. Excellent balm for dogs and humans!
I’m sharing it with my dog friends!
Andrea says
