You will not believe how quick and easy this recipe is. I could not decide if I wanted to make a Strawberry Liqueur or Plain Strawberry Vodka so I decided on something in the middle. If you would like to make a Straight Strawberry Vodka then just leave out the sugar and if you would like to make a sweeter Liqueur then add a cup of simple syrup to a single batch. Simple Syrup is simple 1 cup water to 1 cup sugar brought to a light boil and simmered for 5 minutes then cooled. I found that using an 80 proof Vodka yielded perfect results. Use your favorite brand and you will be on your way to pure deliciousness! One other tip…use RIPE Strawberries or Fruits of your choice. You can use the base recipe with all kinds of fruits, peaches, berries, figs and the list goes on. I have even cucumbers. A good base is 2 cups of sliced fruit to 2 – 2 1/2 cups of Vodka. By the way…here is a tip for some of you that can’t get ripe strawberries all year long…you can use freeze dried strawberries as well.

Think of yourself as a Chemist. If you would like to add something like a Vanilla Bean, or Mint or maybe a touch of Citrus Rind…go for it! You know what you and your family and friends enjoy! If you do add some citrus rind please make sure you just use the rind and no pith (the white area on the inside of the rind)…that can be very bitter. Citrus is always a great additive.

The version I made has a delicious fruity taste with a perfect compliment of sweetness. It is great straight up with ice… shaken with ice and simply poured into a Martini Glass or used in your favorite cocktails. I also really enjoyed it chilled with ice and kissed with with your favorite Sparkling Wine or Champagne garnished with a strawberry and a twist of lime.

Strawberry Vodka
–
Ingredients:
2 cups of washed, hulled and sliced ripe strawberries
2 or 2 1/2 cups of 80 Proof Vodka of your choice
2 Heaping Tablespoons of Caster Sugar
Clean, sterilized Jar or Jars depending on how much you are making.
–
Directions:
Clean, hull and slice your strawberries
Place the strawberries in a medium bowl, sprinkle with the sugar and toss will the strawberries are covered.
Allow the strawberries to macerate for about an hour or two.
Spoon the strawberries and all of the juice into a clean sterilized Mason Jar.
Pour two to two and half cups of Vodka over the strawberries…screw on the lid and shake.
Let the strawberries marry with the vodka for about 3-5 days…lightly shaking twice a day.
Time to strain the Vodka, you can strain with a fine mesh strainer or with cheese cloth. Place the strainer or cheese cloth over a bowl and pour the Vodka and strawberries into it. Allow to completely drain getting every last delicious drop. I do a second strain and then simply pour into a bottle or jar of your choice.
It’s that simple!
Now create your favorite Cocktail!
