There are some people in the world that wake up in the morning, wide-awake, and can just take on the day. These are morning people and while everyone can benefit from having the best start to the day, some of us just need a little more help. Here are some morning hacks that will help you get through your morning with ease, so you can truly take on the day ahead. Some of these morning people just naturally do but can be easily learned by anyone wishing for a fresh start with an easy morning hack or two.
1. Plan and Prep
The best start for your day actually can be set up the evening before. If you don’t have to figure out what to wear, what to eat, and where everything is you can just glide through your morning. Figure out what you are wearing and lay it out. Keep your bathroom counter uncluttered so you can just grab exactly what you need. Packing a lunch? Prep it while cleaning up dinner. It really come down to the old saying “Don’t put off til tomorrow what you can do today.” The more things you set up the evening before the quicker you can go through the motions the next morning.
2. Get a Routine
This can be tough. Life gets in the way. We get it. However, it really does make life easier if you have a set bedtime and morning routine. Start with getting enough sleep. What time do you wake up? Now subtract 8 hours (or however many hours of sleep you need to feel rested) and that’s your bedtime. Get used to setting things up for the next day the night before. If you get used to always prepping your lunch while cleaning up dinner it really doesn’t feel like your adding an extra step, it’s just a part of the process. In the morning, get up, and go through your set routine. Once your morning hack becomes, well, routine, you’ll be able to move through your mornings with ease. This means less stress to carry throughout the day!
3. Don’t Snooze and Still Wake Up Your Way
Set your alarm and when it goes off, get up. No more snoozing. A lot of morning people can wake up before their alarm and feel great. Numerous studies have shown that you will feel more awake in the morning and throughout your day if you get up with your first alarm. It might not be fun, but you can make it your own so it’s not so bad. Figure out what gets you moving in the morning. Is it music? Set your alarm to your favorite tunes. Is it a nice shower? Get up and immediately hop on in. Feeling sluggish until you actually get moving? Go for a quick and healthy walk around the block. Eventually this will play into the hack above and you’ll get so used to it you won’t think twice.
4. Use Your Tech
There are SO many ways tech can help you have a great morning. It really doesn’t matter if it’s your phone, or a digital personal assistant. You can set your alarm and wake up to just about anything you want to listen to. Wake up gently with sunrise alarm clocks. Look up recipes for overnight oats that you can prep the night before and have ready to eat in the morning. A great morning hack for your brain is to listen to a morning meditation for a bit of mindfulness for your day ahead. Set reminders for just before you leave to take everything you need. Or a simple reminder or to-do list to help you get into your routine. The only way we don’t want our tech is in any way that is distracting. Can’t wait to hop onto Facebook? Allot yourself 5 minutes to browse while eating breakfast.
5. Eat Breakfast
Some people just aren’t hungry in the mornings and no one is saying you need a five-course meal, but everyone should eat something in the morning. It will not only help wake you up, but gets your metabolism moving bright and early as well. This means more even and sustained energy throughout the day. It can also aid in your weight-loss efforts if that is a goal for you! Also taking the time to just sit and enjoy a meal is a calming and positive start to your day. It’s your morning hack so your body functions at it’s best all day. Looking for some quick and easy breakfasts…check these out.
6. Create a Station
This morning hack is great for organization. Have a spot, that is not cluttered, that is just for your daily items. Your purse or wallet, keys, phone, glasses, etc. Keep this spot clean and clear and seasonally appropriate. Have a spot to hand your coat in the colder months, have a hat for the sunny days, there are a million ways to make this spot your own. Each person in the house can have their own spot. Then, everything goes in that spot that you need for the day ahead. Kids can have a cubby for their backpack, coat, and shoes. Then add their lunch to their cubby or bag in the morning if needed and they’re all set. If you use your phone for your alarm in the morning, make one of your first priorities to move it to your spot. Enjoy the rest of your morning routine tech-free, plus it’s ready to go when you are. No more looking around at the last minute for the keys you misplaced or phone the kid borrowed.
The mornings can set the tone for your entire day. So make sure to have your routine and system in place for the very best start. If you are just not a morning person, that’s okay. Follow these morning hacks and you will be well on your way to having, if not the cheeriest, at least more stress-free mornings. Great mornings will give you energy for a great day ahead.
