Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day, but it can be easy to ignore or overindulge with all the amazing food for vegetarians out there! These healthy eating hacks for breakfast time will help you start your day off right! Try these healthy food ideas that will help you make the most of your morning meal. I have to tell you all that I feel pretty passionately about Breakfast. It was something that I ignored for some time and with the hounding of my family I have been paying much more attention to the importance of it. I don’t mention it often, but I have a hereditary heart disease (HCM) that I have had open heart (one note… eating Vegetarian for the last 20 years kept all my arteries clean which was a true blessing with an all ready diseased heart… even though I am a Vegetarian going Vegan because of my love for animals… it sure did help me…just sayin : ) I have had many other procedures and have developed a severe case of Afib that brings me to Breakfast. I have found a well balance Breakfast which included protein…veggies…fruit and “good” carbs has been helping me to keep things in check…it’s not a cure … but it sure helps!. I beg all of you to pay a little bit more attention to starting the day with something good… you deserve it!
Pile on the Protein
Some may thing when meat isn’t on the diet, it can seem like a challenge to make sure you get enough protein in your morning meal but not really. Nuts or nut butters without extra processed ingredients are a great source of morning protein to keep you energized all day long. Add some nut butter to a whole grain slice of bread or bagel for a healthy morning meal. Soy milk is also an excellent way to get protein through you dairy-free beverage. Find a fun recipe for Tofu Scramble… it’s delicious and will keep you happy for hours and hours. Have a love affair with beans… high in protein… a great carb and delicious too. Make them into bean burgers or how about a Breakfast Bean Burrito! In a hurry? Try a protein-packed healthy cereal like homemade granola… make yourself some delicious high protein power bars that you can just grab and go… or fill that tumbler with a delicious smoothie! My favorite Breakfast right now is a Veggie Meatball Sandwich (I will share that recipe with you soon I promise)… the meatballs are filled with good carbs which provide protein and tons of veggies… served on a slice of whole grain bread it gives you everything you need to start the day. What is your favorite go to Breakfast.. we would LOVE to hear about it.
Try Weight Watchers
If you need a little direction… check out Weight Watchers. It’s more of a lifestyle. Unlike other popular, fad diets, WW is made for vegetarians! There are so many zero point foods (foods you do not have to count for point, aka calorie, intake). Most veggies and fruits make this list. Other zero point breakfast foods for vegetarians (non-vegan) include eggs and nonfat unsweetened yogurt. Weight Watchers is a phenomenal way to lose weight or just keep healthy. I follow WW with a Mediterranean base. So many possibilities.
The key to Weight Watchers for non-zero point foods is keeping your portions under control. Get some measuring spoons and cups and even a small food scale to make sure you are getting the right quantities of your high quality, delicious food!
Don’t Skip
I know that many of you think that skipping Breakfast will help you loose weight… WRONG!!! You are more likely to overindulge during snack or other meal time if you nix your morning meal. You are also not giving your body the fuel it needs to start the day. You know that feeling that you get when you don’t eat in the morning… I call it the “FOG”… I am sure you know what I am talking about! Your car needs fuel and so do you! So fill the tank… aka tummy! Even a light Breakfast is better than none my friend : )
Stay Hydrated
Starting your morning with refreshing glass of water will help in healthy eating, weight loss, and just feeling great! Drink it before you have food or your morning coffee. A motivational water bottle that measures intake and gives positive messages all day long will help you reach your daily water goals… plus it is good for the Environment! Adding cucumbers, lemons, or berries to your water can give a low-calorie flavor refresher for your hydration needs. Get those 8 full glasses in each day and a little more wouldn’t hurt : )
Grab-and-Go Breakfast
Premake some grab-and-go meals for when you really don’t have time to make breakfast. From frozen yogurt granola bites to huevos rancheros tortilla breakfast cups, there are so many easy meals to prep (and even freeze) ahead of time!
Pack your breakfast on-the-go in a well-insulated but fashionable lunch tote. Get one with enough room to pack your afternoon meal and healthy snacks as well!
Invest in a Nice Skillet
There are so many amazing vegetarian meals you can make with the assistance of a proper skillet! My favorites are a blueberry ricotta skillet cake and vegetarian frittata. My go-to for kitchen recommendations is Cook’s Country Test Kitchen. For browning, sticking, durability, and ease of use, they recommend the 12 inch Lodge Classic Cast Iron Skillet. The remarkably affordable price makes it an easy investment for healthy vegetarian meals. One thing I highly recommend with any new Cast Iron Skillet is to cure it first. Just rub a little bit of oil on the bottom of the pan… pop it in the oven at 375 degrees for an hour and then let it cool in the oven. Wipe it down and then use! The more you use it… the more seasoned it gets. I have a basically new one but I also use my Grandma’s and dear Lord is it seasoned! I love them. You can actually just serve your Frittata from the Skillet… why dirty a dish and it looks really great!
