The farmhouse style just seems to get more popular with each and every day. Even if you don’t live in the woods, you can get away with incorporating some trendy, rustic pieces into your home. These items tend to give your house a warmer, cozier vibe. Farmhouse Style Barn doors are one feature you’ll find in many Farmhouse Homes. Here are several items you might want to consider adding to any room of your home to achieve that relaxing countryside atmosphere.
Cabinetry
Your kitchen cabinets are filled with everything from dishware to food and cookbooks. Keep everything out of sight but still within reach by adding kitchen sliding barn doors as your cabinets. Not only do these doors save the space you’d typically need to swing open your cabinets, but they also create a warm, relaxed feeling while you’re in the kitchen — which might be exactly what you need as you attempt to whip together a meal for the family.
If you want to get really fancy, you can even consider a chalkboard barn door, where you can write out things like your grocery list, as well as any appointments or meetings you have coming up. Designate a space for your kids to write down their homework, sports practice schedules and chores, too.
Outside of the kitchen, barn doors can also make great bathroom cabinets. Keep your toiletries tucked away on one side of the cabinet, while the other side can have plants, photos and other decorations.
Porch Swing
What’s more country than a house with a huge wrap-around porch? One that also features a barn door porch swing. Using ropes or chains to hang it, a porch swing made from a barn door is the perfect DIY project to display your love for this farmhouse design style.
If you don’t want to hang it, you can also build your own barn door bench to serve as a comfortable place to sit and relax.
A TV Console
An entertainment center with barn doors is perfect for concealing all your equipment, such as gaming systems, DVD players and stereo systems. As the focal point of your living room, this piece of furniture plays an influential role in the aesthetic of your home.
This farmhouse-style TV console has three shelves, along with metal accents that make the stand truly unique. Made of Knotty Alder wood, this model can support up to a 48” TV.
Or for those of you that have your TV on the Wall…this DIY set of sliding barn doors just might be what you have been looking for.
Hutch
Whether it’s in your kitchen, dining room or living room, a hutch is an incredibly versatile piece of furniture. You can store anything from your china dishes to photographs and other memorabilia.
If you’d rather keep these items concealed, a barn door hutch is the perfect option. You can even keep half of the items in the hutch on display, while hiding your “messy” side in an attractive way. This rustic piece will complete any room in which you choose to place it.
Tables
From kitchen tables to coffee tables and end tables, you can make virtually any type of surface out of a barn door. You can even use these pieces as outdoor tables to really contribute to the rustic feeling. Check out this fabulous DIY Outdoor Door Table
For a unique twist, try hanging it from something so it’s suspended in the air. If that sounds a bit out of your realm of expertise, you could also make a table stand using other pieces of the door.
Headboard
Another potential DIY barn door project would be to make a headboard in this popular design style. You can decide whether you want them to slide open or not. If you do allow for this, consider hanging photos or other decorations behind the doors to display when you have them open. Remember to leave plenty of room to slide the doors open without damaging any of your other bedroom furniture.
These barn door creations are just a sampling of the many things you can do with this rustic feature. Let them be a starting point for your farmhouse-style makeover, but don’t be afraid to get creative and come up with some of your own ideas, too. These doors are extremely versatile in a range of settings, which is one of their greatest assets.
