So…let’s make a batch of this lovely lemon liquor!

Let me share a few things first:

1.  Pick beautiful thick skinned lemons

2.  Please wash your fruit with a nice bath so they are squeaky clean!

3.  Make sure to  zest carefully…not allowing the white pith .  Of course a little will get on…but really try to be careful.

4.  I used half zest peels and half fine zest and it worked great for me…you can use all of either…it is your choice.

5. Store it in a cool dark place.

6.  The longer you let it sit…the better the results.

7.  If you enjoy a sweeter drink…add a bit more simple syrup and if you enjoy one not too sweet…add less.  I suggest tasting after adding half and gear it that way…taste till perfect : )

8.  Always serve ice cold!

A sweet lemony flavored liquor.
Author: Andrea Cammarata
Recipe type: Liquour
Cuisine: Italian
Serves: 7 cups
Ingredients
  • 14 Large Lemons
  • 3 cups sugar
  • cups water
  • 1 (750-ml) bottle of vodka (you don't have to buy the finest of vodka's...just a good basic one...the lemon and sweetener will make it fabulous.
Instructions
  1. Use your best vegetable peeler or zester and peel the lemons trying very hard not to include any white pith (it will make your drink bitter), I fine zested ½ of the lemons and the other ½ I did in large long peels.
  2. After you finish your zesting...place all of the zest and peels in a ½ gallon mason jar and pour the entire bottle of Vodka over the peels.
  3. , Screw on the lid nice and tight and store it at room temperature for a minimum of 10 days (the longer it steeps...the richer lemon flavor you will have...you can let it steep for a month if you like...but it is really good at 10 days : )
  4. After the vodka is steeped and ready it is time to make the simple syrup.
  5. Put 3 cups of water and 3 cups of sugar into a sauce pan...bring to a boil and then simmer for about 10 minutes stirring occasionally. Then allow it to cool completely.
  6. , It is time to strain the liquid through a mesh strainer. Discard the peels and return the liquid to the jar and add the simple syrup.
  7. Pour into your favorite bottles and refrigerate until ice cold...the colder the better!
  8. Add a printed label and you are ready to drink!
  9. Create new drinks with this yummy brew and it is also fabulous to bake with. ENJOY!
