Today is a very special day…it is National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day. I can’t tell you how near and dear the whole “Adopt Don’t Shop” Movement is to my family and myself. It is a message that I hope and pray continues to spread world wide. My heart is always warmed when I see TV Shows include the message…I jump for joy when I see Adopted Pets on TV promoting Adoption and most of all my heart skips a beat each time I see a wonderful Pet find their forever home and receive the love and care they so deserve. We all know the stats on how many Pets wind up in Shelters all over the world and it is truly heartbreaking…but we have the power to change it and save them one by one.
Do You Believe in Love at First Sight?
Jessica from Found Animals shares this little Infographic with us…so if you believe in Love At First Sight… check out these statistics. I actually think they might be even higher but that is coming from one that falls in LOVE at first sight every time I see a furry friend 🙂 Found Animals Site is very helpful for you and your furry family… there are articles about How To Choose A Vet… How To Get Your Pet Ready For New Years Eve and so much more… so stop by and visit their Pet Resource Center…you will be glad you did!
I know that so many people can not adopt but if you want to help you can do so in many ways. Look up your Local Shelter on line and see if they have a Wish List (trust me…they will be THRILLED with whatever you choose to give them). Some Shelters even have an Amazon Wish List which makes donating super simple. Call your Shelter and see if there are any doggies or kitties that need a special diet (I am cooking for 8 dogs right now that need to gain weight : ). Maybe you would like to volunteer as a dog walker or to help with caring for the animals. Fund Raising might be your thing…see if you can run an online auction or maybe organize a Tricky Tray Evening to benefit the Shelter. If knitting and crocheting is your thing…they can ALWAYS use blankets and crate mats. You can even make some No Sew Fleece Beds (tons of DIYS on line). If you have any towels or blankets at home that you no longer need…pop them in the wash and send them over to the Shelter…they love it. Collars…Harnesses…Leashes are needed all the time. Oh and if you want to give the doggies something special…they would love some toys and tennis ball launchers are a favorite toy of the Shelter Workers and the Pups! You can make a batch of treats to make all of the pets smile that day! So so so many little things to do that will make a HUGE difference. Another fabulous things to do is to Foster… we have Fostered many and as they say…you can’t do every thing but you can help one at a time. If you are able to…give it a try : ) The biggest thing is keep spreading the word. Shelter Pets are absolutely WONDERFUL and I know first hand : ) We have had adopted doggies for 2 decades and they simply ROCK!!! They are truly my heart …Ali and Georgia that are here with us and Skippy… Sherlock…Rusty… Beau… Mr. Jiggs… Pops and Basil who are our angels and there is not a day they are not in our thoughts and our hearts.
Please join us on Saturday Mornings here at The Cottage Market. We have a feature called Down The Rabbit Hole…it is filled with interesting and unique links but most of all we feature a Rescue of the Week. We automatically donate $25 to them and for every comment you leave another dollar is donated. We love doing this because it helps small groups that so need it and it makes people aware of how many Rescues there are out there making a difference every single day.
If you want to start your Adoption Journey right now…why not visit The Shelter Pet Project : )
