Now it is time to give you the secret Pop’s Barbecue Sauce Recipe …named in Memory of our Dear and Wonderful Angel Pop’s
Spicy Pop’s Barbecue Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:
6 finely chopped garlic cloves
2 tablespoons of olive oil
2 cups of ketchup
1 cup of tomato puree
1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
7 ounces of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce…so the flavor distributes evenly…chop the peppers into smaller piece. (these are available at your local grocery store in the international section. I know Ole El Paso makes them and there are other brands also…no need for a specialty shop
1 teaspoon of soy sauce
1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce (I use Vegetarian)
1/4 cup of brown sugar (if you like it a bit sweeter add a few more tablespoons)
1/2 teaspoon of dried basil
1 teaspoon of paprika
1 teaspoon of onion powder
1 teaspoon a freshly ground pepper
1 teaspoon of kosher salt
1 tablespoon of Franks red hot sauce
1 tablespoon of Sriracha
1 teaspoon of sweet mustard
Directions:
1. Use a medium sauce pan and place your 2 tablespoons of oil in it and heat on medium. Once it is heated lightly brown your finely chopped garlic.
2. Now add all of the ingredients one by one into the pan stirring a bit in between…when everything has been added…stir well.
3. Bring the mixture to a boil and then lower it to a simmer.
4. Give a taste to see if you would like any more seasoning or sugar.
5. Now it is all ready to simmer for about 1 hour…stir every 15 minutes.
6. Allow the Sauce to cool.
7. Now place the sauce into the blender and blend till completely smooth.
8. Time to BBQ!
For those of you that do not like it as Spicy…only use 1/3 of the 7 ounce can of chipotle peppers and add an extra 3/4’s of a cup of ketchup. That will tone down the heat but it will still have the rich flavor of the peppers in adobo sauce.
PLEASE NOTE:Â Franks Red Hot and Sriracha can be eliminated if you don’t like heat…but there is just a little bit of both and they add great flavor!
