10 Spaces You Should Declutter Today will empower you to get more organized and feel more together! Each space will not take you very long and the rewards of taking the initiative are amazing! More Decluttering Tips coming in 2022!
Life has a way of sneaking up on you when you least expect it. You might spend one weekend cleaning your entire home top to bottom, and a month later, things are a mess again. You could have sworn you just took out all the junk lying around your house, but now it’s time to start all over. It’s easy to get caught up in the routine of cleaning. Once you tackle the dishes in the sink, you vacuum and mop. After the laundry gets thrown in the washing machine, you straighten that crooked picture frame on your wall and you can relax for the day — or can you? During your next cleaning spree, don’t forget about these 10 spaces that are easy to overlook. When you finally declutter them, your home will feel like it got a makeover.
1. Your Shoe Storage
Everyone has a designated place in their home where they dump their shoes. It might be just outside the door to your garage or on a mat in your mudroom. Put each pair where they belong to give the space an organized appearance.
2. Your Trusty Purse
When was the last time you saw the bottom of your purse? Dump it out and toss out the trash. Just don’t forget to comb through everything for any coins or loose dollar bills.
3. Your Closet Shelves
Blankets, pillows and all your travel bags have made a home on your closet shelves, but they’ve collected a few friends. Bring out the step stool and rearrange your closet shelves while carefully wiping down any corners hiding spiderwebs.
4. Your Car’s Interior
Straw wrappers in your drink holders and empty chip bags on the floor have got to go. Take advantage of a car wash in your area to use its powerful vacuums and cleaning sprays to get everything done at once.
5. Your Kitchen Drawers
Don’t bother with the drawer that holds your sorted silverware. Jump straight into the drawer that contains your bag clips, pencils and sticky notes. It’s needed some attention for far too long.
6. Your Refrigerator Drawers
Think about what’s in the back of your refrigerator drawers behind your sliced cheeses and deli meat. If you don’t know the answer, it’s time to take out your cleaning spray and paper towels. A garbage bag is about to become your new best friend.
7. Your Garage
Everyone’s guilty of throwing stuff in their garage that doesn’t need to be there. The next time you have a free afternoon, clean up your garage and discover what’s inside. You’ll likely find useful tools like a shovel and road salt that will prepare your home for the next winter storm.
8. Your Garbage Cans
You take out the garbage all the time, but you probably never look inside the can when it’s empty. Use your garden hose or a roll of paper towels to wipe down your trash cans and prevent mold growth. While you’re on a roll, do the same with your recycling bins.
9. Your Makeup Bag
The bottom of a makeup bag is as elusive as an empty purse. Sort through your makeup to toss out anything that expired and organize everything in your pouch. You’ll never have to hope you’ll find your lipstick in time to leave for work in the morning again.
10. Your Email Inbox
It’s a pain to sort through a backed-up inbox, but it has to happen eventually. Curl up in front of your favorite movie or TV show and get started, using folders to separate the important emails and organize them in the future.
Tackle One Thing at a Time
At this point, you might feel like you have a long list of things to do, but don’t focus on that. Instead, tackle one thing at a time over the next few days and get in the habit of decluttering.
