These DIY organization hacks will keep your home clutter-free and chic. From the bedroom to the kitchen, each project takes less than half a day but will be useful for years after you’ve completed it.
Bar Cart Nightstand
Spray paint an old bar cart in gold or a color that matches your bedroom and decorate it as you would a nightstand. It creates extra room for items like a water carafe, a small storage basket or your nightly read while still leaving room for a lamp and your alarm clock or charging dock.
Scarf Hanger
Attach shower rings to a single hanger to hang your scarves when not in use. You can also use it for tank tops, caps or any other clothing item you have in surplus. Hang them in a cupboard or display them on a hook to add color to your room.
Jewelry Cabinet
Make your version of a vintage jewelry cabinet with a modern twist. All you need to do is nail some hooks into the wall, add hinges to your full-length mirror then attach it to the wall. When closed, it functions as a simple mirror but behind is your beautiful jewelry collection.
Packaging Crate Nightstand
Stack old packaging crates together to create a nightstand with storage. If you want to ensure it’s secure, glue the crates together, then put screws in if you want to ensure it’s secure. You can also add hairpin legs to heighten it and prevent dust from collecting underneath.
Cosmetics Ladder
If you have an old ladder in your shed or garage, clean it up, paint it with your bathroom colors and place it above the toilet for storage. You can put anything from toilet paper and hand towels to all your hair and beauty products. It will be a lovely focal point and it’s a great way to minimize clutter on your bathroom counter or sink.
Personalized Drawer Organizers
Use storage trays or an old kitchen utensil rack to store each person’s dental or skincare routine in a bathroom drawer. Label each organizer with people’s names so they remember to return their floss and toothpaste when they’re done.
Shower Caddies
Attach plastic laundry baskets with holes to your shower wall with water-resistant hooks to create personal shower caddies for each person in the house. It makes for easier cleaning and less shampoo and sponges sprawled across the bathroom.
Magnetic Strip
Keep your nail cutters, hair scissors, pins, clips and nail files in one place by installing a magnetic knife strip inside a bathroom drawer or cabinet. You’ll never need to go hunting for your third pin again!
Dresser TV Stand
Make your own entertainment center by repurposing an old dresser. Paint it in a color of your choice or keep it as is and use it to store remotes, games, books and other TV-time essentials. It’s also a great place to keep extra throws and your seasonal cushion covers.
Cord Holder
Round up all the random cords and charging cables and store them in a shoe box. You’ll need empty toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls to store each cord. If you want to add some style to it, spray paint the box to complement your living room colors.
Bike Shelves
Free up floor space and mount your bikes on the wall for a functional decor idea that can double as decor. You can get metal bike hooks from a hardware store or make a wood shelf yourself.
Cork Noticeboard
Add cork to cabinet interiors or doors with double-sided strips or spray. You can pin your grocery lists or favorite recipes so they’re always visible. If you’re one of the 65% of people who learn visually, you’ll appreciate having them in an accessible place and close by when you need to note the empty flour jar.
Tension Rod Dividers
Did you know you can use tension rods for more than just hanging curtains? Put them in a drawer to keep your lunch boxes, lids and water bottles separate. It’s a quick fix that will keep everything upright and organized. You can also separate trays or baking trays.
Glass Storage
Keep all your most-used ingredients in clear mason jars and put them in a wooden storage caddy or box. Items like sugar, rice, pasta or salt will be useful to have within reach when it’s time to cook. Cookbook author Katherine McCord suggests you stick cooking instructions or recipes on the bottom of the mason jars in case you need them.
Mason Jar Utensil Caddy
Remove the flat part of the lids from the mason jars and leave the outer ring, then arrange the jars in a box or tray. Put your silverware and straws in the jars, place it on a countertop as decor, then simply lift with the handle when your guests are settled and food is ready to serve.
