Project slated for today here at
The Cottage Market
China Plate Chalkboard/Blackboard
so you can imagine the mismatched plates that comes my way!
Piles of saucers which we took care of with another Cinch project…then there were mismatched china teapots…creamers and more which we created an Anthropologie inspired Cinch project with…and now for those stacks of cake plates…the solution could not be easier…literally you will be done in 1/2 and hour and if you don’t count drying time…5 minutes!!!
What will you need?
That’s it…a pretty cake plate or of course you can make a larger one…a thin 1/8″ wood circle (available at Michael’s and other craft shops) A strong glue…a brush and some blackboard paint. I am trying to truly limit my use of aerosol so I have started using the brush type…works fabulously without a strong odor and without the horrible effect on the ozone : ) EZ PZ right!
1.
Sand your wooden disc.
2.
Paint your wooden disc with at least 3 coats of chalkboard paint…want to amp up the drying time…fire up that hair dryer baby!
3.
Apply a nice coat of glue…press and allow to dry.
4.
Write a little note…wash…repeat…over and over and over again!
That is how CINCHY it is to make a…
So if you have a ton of plates you don’t know what to do with or just one that has been hanging around a little too long…turn it into a unique and wonderful gift for MOM or for anyone in your life…trust me they will love it…tuck a little easel in the package or maybe a plate hanger…I know it will be a gift that says you care and no one has to know that it
It’s a CINCH …
I know I will never tell!
Now let’s see what the girls are up to…they are all simply amazing and I know you are going to adore their Cinch creations…just click and you will be transported to more Wonderful It’s a Cinch projects!!!

Love this plate – it’s the step-sister of my silver platter chalkboard! Let’s get them together for cocktails (that we can then use the paper parasols to make a fabulous wreath)!
I painted right on the silver – but love this idea to use a piece of wood (no taping involved)!
Kelly
Andrea,
Great idea. I love it! What a cute idea to paint the disc (junkin’ joe will be so happy you saved the plate)!

This is wonderful sweetie!!! i love this quick idea. I make my own chalkboard paint and it can be any color, so this would be wonderful to personalize for a Kitchen or a gift.
Thanks for sharing

so cute!
cinchy, clever, and oh so cute!!!
Fabulous idea! I may have to take a new look at some of my packed away dishes!
Very cute! I have chalkboard paint but I have never used it. Might have to give it a try on a project like this 🙂
Your chalkboard plate is so charming 🙂 It would be cool to do the same thing with a big cheese platter and write the names of each cheese right on the blackboard.
Kelly
I would love this on an easel on my counter. Watch out plates – here I come! Followed over from the Project Queen.
