Today we are giving one of our favorite older collections a complete refresh with 25 creative acorn crafts and decorating ideas for fall!

This is not a collection filled with twenty versions of the same painted acorn. Our crafty friends have transformed thrifted tweed jackets, discarded sweaters, plastic Easter eggs, wool balls, fabric scraps, pinecones, clay, glass marbles and genuine acorns into something wonderful.

A Quick Note About Crafting With Real Acorns

Nature gives us some of the best crafting supplies for free, but natural acorns need a little attention before they come inside.

Inspect your acorns carefully and discard any with cracks, holes, mold or visible damage. Clean them gently and allow them to dry completely. When a tutorial includes directions for cleaning and preparing natural acorns, be sure to follow the creator’s instructions.

If acorns are not available where you live, faux acorns and purchased acorn caps work beautifully too. Several of today’s projects use wooden eggs, plastic Easter eggs or wool balls, so no oak tree is required!

Children should always have adult supervision when a project involves hot glue, sharp tools, oven drying or small pieces.

We are beginning with one of the most creative acorn projects I have ever seen!

Sarah from Sadie Seasongoods rescued the sleeves of thrifted tweed jackets and gave them an entirely new purpose. Wooden salad bowls become the oversized caps, old drawer pulls become stems and those beautiful vintage fabrics create the bodies.

These would look spectacular on a mantel, tucked into a large basket or resting beside a collection of pumpkins. This project has everything we love…thrifting, upcycling, texture and loads of cozy cottage personality!

Felted Wool Ball Acorns

Yvonne from StoneGable combines premade wool balls with real or faux acorn caps to create these sweet little fall treasures.

There is no complicated felting technique required. Once the caps and wool balls are joined, the finished acorns can be displayed in a wooden bowl, added to a garland, turned into ornaments or tied together with velvet ribbon.

A whole bowlful can be completed surprisingly quickly…although I have a feeling making them could become slightly addictive!
