Decorating With Mindfulness can be such a rewarding thing for you and your entire family. Living happily in the moment of today in your own home is priceless. This is A Trend That To Love. I know I sure do!
Yes my friends, I said it… I LOVE one of the newest trends in Home Decor. In fact I want this one to stay around for an eternity. Simply put… Mindfulness is all about Living in the Moment and appreciating your life as it is now. Too many times we spend so much of our efforts in the past or looking towards the future and ignore what is happening here and now. So why not surround ourselves with what we and our family loves. (I have to say outright that this is my perspective of what Decorating With Mindfulness is : ) This post is not all about Home Decor Style… it’s more about taking our own style and tailoring it to what makes everyone happy! I am going to take the approach that it is all about the “little things”. Creating small spaces that will make you and yours smile. You can apply so many of these ideas into your own home… your way!
If reading is your families love… why not create special places in the home to enjoy this amazing activity.
DIY Reading Nooks
Do you love to snuggle up with a good book or magazine when the atmosphere of your home is peaceful and calm? Why not make a space that is special… a little retreat where you can enjoy the moment in comfort and partake in a cup of your favorite brew or maybe a little snack. You don’t have room you say?
Well just look at this little corner over at Apartment Therapy. Here is a recipe for a Reading Nook that you can create just about anywhere and in any style you adore. A simple comfy chair… a light… a little table… maybe a piece of your favorite art on the wall … a few of your tiny treasures and there you have it. It can be that simple and it can be in the Bedroom… Kitchen… Living Room… Family Room… Guest Room (hey… why not use it if it’s there : ). You can buy new… you can thrift the space or you shop your own home or a combination of all! Try to make it work for you… your space and your budget. You deserve it! I would however include a comfy ottoman : ) Enjoy what you love when you can and be in the moment!
If you have a little reader… why not make a special place where they can escape to a magical place through their favorite pages! This has to be one of the most amazing Reading Nooks of all times. I have to say I am jealous. If I had only seen this when my kids were little! Lauren over at Bless’er House transformed a Wardrobe/Armoire into the wonderful land of Narnia where her sweet little girl can transport herself to where ever those pages take her. I love how there is space for book storage and a comfy cozy spot to sit. This space is truly magical! If you are lucky enough to find a Wardrobe like this… you can create whatever you would like inside those doors! It can be generic… it can be thrilled with all kinds of things your child loves… how about turning it in to the Marvel Universe … anything your child adores. Now the only problem might be is that they will never want to come out of there : )
Here is a great idea for a Reading Nook for Two! Do you happen to have an under the stairwell space that you are not using? Well then you might want to take a few ideas from Joanna Gaines on how to make a space where you and a special loved one can enjoy reading your own thing but together! You could even add some comfy reading mats so the kids can join in! All you need is two chairs… a small table… a bookshelf and your favorite things. Once again… If you have the space… you can create something wonderful no matter what your budget is. I have to tell you… there are so many incredible thrifting creations waiting to happen out there and a reading nook just lends itself to it! What a great place to retreat to and what an amazing use of sometimes wasted space. Make it your happy place!
Here is a great idea for kids… create a space where they all can go and have all their favorite books surrounding them… ready to be taken off the shelf in a snap! With just a rug… comfy cushions (or chairs) some simple wall Gutter Shelves and their favorite books and things they have an instant favorite space where they can enjoy their favorite thing any time. When you visit Natural Beach Living… she will open up so many different ideas and possibilities! All you need is a corner!
This is totally a brilliant idea… I made a little office out of one of our closets… but creating a Reading Nook in one is simply BRILLIANT!!! Kudos to Bre over at Brepurposed! She created a space for her little one which you can easily do and you could also create a space for you. This idea is great for all ages… from about 3 – 189 : ) Just think of all the possibilities that await you! You can tailor the small space to the person… they will always be in the moment they love!
Exercise… Meditation or Yoga Zone
Is anyone into Exercising? Meditation? Yoga? Well then how about snatching up a corner some place and create a zone where these activities can be done. It doesn’t take very much at all!
This is such a wonderful example of a quiet… peaceful space where you can meditate and get in touch with your inner self. All it takes is a little rug… a pretty soft cushion… a touch of sunlight and maybe a little bit of greenery. You can achieve this in a much smaller corner space. In fact if you need to… you can store the cushion and pillows in the closet and just take them out when you need them. So simple and you will totally be in the moment.
Here is another version of a meditation space. As you can see… with just a few pieces you can create a space that is perfect for you or anyone in the home. It’s a fun place for everyone to get involved with if they are going to be using it… a little touch of the whole family.
If you love yoga… creating a space is actually so very easy. Just look what Camille Styles did with a wall! A simple mirror… trim on the wall… a little stool… some cushions… a yoga mat and there you have the perfect place to exercise. It is a space that is easily created and hardly takes up any room… plus it can easily blend into the rest of the home. There are so many other things you can add if you would like… a touch of your favorite art… candles… plants…baskets and everything that makes you happy.
Do you love to make things… do you and the whole family love to craft… scrap and everything in between but you don’t have a special space??? Well here are some suggestions that don’t take a lot of room but sure give you a special place to create!
Do you have a closet that you can give up? If you answered yes… please drop by Country Living and watch as they made the ultimate crafting space ever. The only problem with this is is that everyone is going to want to use it so maybe making a schedule would be a good idea 🙂 I am sure your mind is spinning with all different decorating ideas to make this kind of space perfect for you and the family.
Do you need a zone where you can blog… do some paperwork… enjoy some computer time or maybe a combined space that can be used by the rest of the family for computer time?
All you need is a wall : ) I personally love this space. With this basic formula … you can create the perfect space. A desk… chair… little throw rug…some art… a bulletin board… a calendar… a clock… or any maybe a shelf… a light and some special touches. Again… you can do something like this on any budget… turn to the thrift store items and the sky is the limit… what you can create and tailor to your tastes is endless. Or you might have some items in your own home that you can put this space together with? Or you can treat yourself to something new… or how about trying your hand at building a simple desk… all you need is wood and a set of cool pencil legs. Come on over and visit with Joanna Gaines and she is going to share some more ideas she has for small office spaces. If you would love some more Small Office inspiration… click here
Do you or someone in your family LOVE to bake? Well then… how about setting up a special baking zone. Everything at your fingertips to create some incredible culinary Creations!!!
BHG has an amazing idea… a little bit of closet space… a rolling cart… some shelves and plenty of hooks for hanging can truly create a sweet spot! No looking around for those tins… baking powder or even a spatula… they all all be in one space so you can get down to business in a snap. Now this is what I call a HAPPY SPACE!!! When you are in the “moment” to bake… this space is surely going to help you enjoy.
If you really don’t have any space to work with to create your Baking Station… no fear… a rolling cart is here!!! Over at Be My Guest With Denise you will see how simple it is to turn a rolling cart into a Baking Station that you can roll to any counter or table top so you can work. Have all of your flours… sugars… powder and such on one rack… measuring cups… sifters… cookie press… decorating tools on another and so on. So simple and believe me… you will find it incredibly handy. So when the moment strikes… wheel this cutie over to your favorite space and let the sweetness flow. This little project opens you up to so many possibilities! Pick our your favorite cart and just have at it!
Do you have a family that loves to gather in one space… watch a movie and simply hang out?
I know I do and one huge suggestion is when picking out your sofa… go for something comfy and cozy! Avoid whites and throw pillows you can’t throw or use. Opt for fabric that is easy to clean and comfortable to sit on. The whole theory of being for show will not offer the environment to enjoy your family moments : ) There are tons of things that look awesome on instagram but not all that comfortable. Just give a lot of thought to what you really want to help your family relax and get away from the insane world we live in! A sofa like this one over at Architectural Digest is looking really good to me! Do you know what I would do with it though? I would have the sofa turned the other way… the art work removed and replaced with a BIG Screen… lol!!! Now that would make my family very happy in many moments : )
Does anyone in the family love plants? Have any of you considered trying your hand at indoor gardening? Go for it… regardless of how much space you have… you can do it!
Marie Claire over in the UK has some great Indoor Garden Ideas for us including this one. It’s the simplest of all … just find yourself a ladder that you love… expand it… fill it with your favorite plants and planters and don’t walk under it : ). You can place it wherever you like and maybe even add some plants to the floor space around it. You could paint the ladder… stain it… distress it and more. What a great base that you can make your own. Be Inspired. Let that inner Gardener OUT!!! If you would like even more ideas for an indoor garden… click here.
Does your family have a favorite scent? Why not bring it to fruition and light a candle with your families signature scent! In my house we love Sugar Cookie and anything Cinnamon! When I saw this candle over at Etsy… I thought this might give you some ideas since the Fall is on the way and no… I have to affiliation … just sharing it : ) A little bit of Pumpkin Spice just might let everyone enjoy each moment even more!
Ways of bringing your space into a Mindfulness state can go on forever and a day… but I hope you enjoy this little selection. If you enjoyed this… please let me know and I will do a part two for sure!
