I was checking out some of my favorite blogs this afternoon and while visiting my friend Janel’s blog…the fun and fabulous NellieBellie I found out that today is National Donut Day which she is celebrating with a wonderful Rice Krispie Donut!! How did that happen without me knowing! So I knew I didn’t have much time to do a long donut procedure…I mean I had to make them and photograph them and it was a very rainy day in Jersey! So I started a search to see what I could find…well what might be even better than a donut? Answer: Delicious Donut Holes!
I found this amazing blog called Just a Taste…the creation of Kelly and it is wonderful…you have to take a visit over there and check it all out…filled with culinary gems!!! Well she had a recipe for glazed donut holes that she said could be made in about 15 minutes and WOW was she right about that!
So I followed her recipe which you can find right here…
The recipe was spot on and it took me literally 5 minutes from start to finish to prepare the batter!
Kelly made hers glazed and they are divine! But I wanted to put my own spin on these tasty little morsels so I decided to shop the pantry! I found chocolate for melting…coconut for dipping…confections sugar for coating…
then there were sprinkles…jimmies and white chocolate chips!
So I decided to use all of the above and I had a plate full of wonderful donut holes thanks to Kelly’s recipe! Simply by melting some chocolate bits over the double boiler (aka…glass bowl over sauce pan with boiling water) then dipping the holes and sprinkling them with the toppings I had a plate filled with the favorites of my family! Of course I had to have some rolled in powder sugar and some cinnamon sugar too!
This is a great way to celebrate National Donut Day and it is not too late to make them TODAY!!!! Surprise the kids when they come home from school…dazzle your husband with your mad donut skills! I am telling you these are so easy…just follow Kelly’s recipe and then glaze them…dip them…roll them…sprinkle them…any thing you would like! Shop your pantry…you can even crush some cereal to garnish with and if you don’t have chocolate discs…use those chocolate chips that are calling your name!  A great way to celebrate the day and surprise your loved ones! I was out of the kitchen in 50 minutes which included clean-up…how great is that! The donut holes are delicious…a wonderful golden outside and delicious cake like center…dreamy!
A BIG thank you to Kelly from Just a Taste for the great base and the inspiration! I will surely be visiting you again soon!
If you want to celebrate with Italian Donuts…you have to try my Grandma’s Zeppole and MANGIA!!! They are literally like little clouds! The secret ingredient…RICOTTA CHEESE!
