What a great round-up! I loved the starling’s vocalizations. I think the strutting horse is an Arabian; they are so beautifully elegant. I always fall down a rabbit hole reading this post. This time I somehow ended up on the story of Smoky who is considered the first therapy dog. She was found in the Philippines during WWII. Her serviceman owner wrote a book about her called “Yorkie Yankee Doodle”. She has a page on Wikipedia. I think you would enjoy reading her story if you haven’t already heard it. Her statue is adorable!
I made a mistake: the book is “Yorkie Doodle Dandy” by Bill Wynne. Smoky was found in a New Guinea foxhole, not the Phillipines. She received many honors during her war years as well as after.
