Hello my dear friends. How are you and your family and fur babies today! Hope all is well. Today’s Down the Rabbit Hole is going to look a little different… I needed to use The Cottage Market’s Voice for a cause we truly believe in as we do in Pet Rescue… Today it is all about BLACK LIVES MATTER. This weeks donations are going to Black Lives Matter, Minnesota Freedom Fund and of course our regular donation to Pet Rescue and this week it was Dachshund Rescue of South Florida (all the links are below if you would like to help out). I am including a little something I wrote on instagram…
This feed and the blog are all about yummy food, crafty creation, Farmhouse Home Decor, Quick and Easy DIYs… #AdoptDontShop and everything in between. I have not however shared my politics which I won’t be doing now either… but I have also not shared the way my heart feels about some very important issues. I am not sure why I haven’t used my voice and to be honest with you… I am very upset with myself because I haven’t. The first question I asked myself is what can I do… what can we do as a family to help… so we did a few of the obvious things… but the more I thought about it… I knew that was not the only answer.
There is something that we can all do right now and from now on… LISTEN and truly HEAR. Listen to what everyone is saying… hear the stories… understand the hearts of the wonderful people behind all of the stories. Educate ourselves more and more and more. Read everything we can to help us make a difference. You will be surprised what we don’t know. African American History is not to be celebrated as a Month of History… it deserves to be woven intricately through the pages of American History… it needs to be told in full… when it happened… who it happened to… who was involved and how it painted the pictures of our history. I do believe if everyone see’s the story as it really happened… opinions can be changed and more can be understood.
We should also have discussions within our own families. No matter how old or young your children are… it is a good thing to talk.. discuss… hear. For the little ones there are so many books out there that will assist you on how to talk about Racism and so much more. It’s time to do it all. Then after that… share what you know… knowledge is golden.
As a white person… I can never truly understand… I did not have to have “the talk” with my son or worry about my husband being stopped and keeping his hands at 12 and 2 O’clock on the steering wheel… those thoughts never entered my mind. When my dear friend shared with me that her 14 year old son said he never wanted to go outside again… my heart cracked… can you imagine and there is more… I would love for you to visit @thiswortheylife and read the top 3-4 posts… it will give you a real insight how it feels to be parents of black sons. Tat and Durand are amazing parents but they have a task that Joe and I never had to think of. Also… treat yourself and visit their fabulous blog… This Worthey Life …you will be so glad you did!
We can’t be silent… we have to keep listening… learning… sharing and in the end one of the biggest things we can do is VOTE (the most amazing form of peaceful protest)… I am not telling you how to vote… but VOTE… Vote for the person that reflects you philosophy… your compassion… your true beliefs. Take the time to find out who they are so you know who and what you are voting for! If you don’t vote… the people that are the root of the problem will stay… but you have the power to change that!!! So PLEASE PLEASE Vote… please know if you want to vote by mail (especially with Covid 19 in the air) you have to do it very very soon… like within the next 2 weeks for everything to be in order. Don’t miss this huge opportunity to make a difference.
Let’s all join forces and make a difference and keep LISTENING… everything that is being said needs to be HEARD.
We can not have another death like George Floyd… it has to STOP here.
I love you all for having such wide open hearts and understanding the plight of others… Listen and then spread the word…
