A heartfelt story about healing, family, simple meals and finding comfort in unexpected moments during recovery.
Last time I shared a little update with you… things had slowed down because of my fall… the oxygen… and all the extra healing that suddenly became part of everyday life. Well… this week brought another chapter to the adventure.
Turns out healing is taking longer than I hoped. The lungs still need work… the back still complains every day… and building my strength back has become a slow process. Cooking has gotten harder too because managing oxygen tubing around a stove is not exactly easy these days.
So I started relying more on my mom’s old style electric frying pan and the crock pots. Honestly… there is something comforting about using them. Simple meals… easier cleanup… and a little reminder of home and family while everything feels upside down.
Now here comes the funny part…
What exactly do you do when there are two men in the house who do not cook?
Simple…
You train one of them.
And no… it was not my husband.
Somehow my son became my unexpected kitchen apprentice and honestly… it has turned into one of the sweetest surprises during this difficult season.
The first night he carefully handed me a bowl of ramen with vegetables and looked so proud. Then came avocado toast. Then one night he walked in carrying the most beautiful ramen bowl with mushroom truffle broth… scallions… garlic… tofu… umami mayo… and a perfectly sunny egg on top.
Every meal keeps getting a little better… a little more creative… and a little more thoughtful.
And somewhere in the middle of all this… something bigger started happening too.
We are all learning things about each other we never slowed down enough to notice before… little talents… funny habits… unexpected strengths.
Life has a strange way of teaching us things during hard seasons.
Sometimes healing is not just about getting physically stronger…
Sometimes it is about discovering people again… even the ones sitting right beside you at the dinner table.
And next week I want to share a funny story with you about high school memories… personalities… and how people sometimes surprise you years later. I think you are really going to enjoy that one too…
