Morning everyone. Hope you are all having a fabulous day! The sun isn’t up yet here in New Jersey! I am working on some tutorials for you and some other interesting things so keep checking back, they will be up soon. I didn’t want to not have a post today so I am sharing a very simple little bit of sweetness that is fun to have in the pantry and it is a great gift for friends. Hope you enjoy and I will see you tomorrow! Here is your sweet for the day…
Vanilla Sugar
This is a basic that everyone should have in their bag of tricks. It is perfect added to recipes, a wonderful topping for yummy cookies, scrumptious in hot chocolate, coffee, latte’s and even tea, great to dip a beautiful piece of ripe fruit in, sensational as the topping on creme brulee and the list goes on. So so simple and so versatile.
The ingredients that you need are:
Sugar (I used free trade Organic Pure Cane Sugar) it is yummy and it raises money for a wonderful cause. A Good quality sugar works picture perfect!
Then you need 3 beans (I know that they are very pricey but I did find a fabulous deal on flavorful and fresh vanilla beans at Costco, they are sold under the name of Rodelle and they come in glass test tubes sealed, 5 beans in each tube and now for the unbelievable part…the price is $11.00. For those of you that buy vanilla beans you know how outstanding of a bargain this is and trust me they are flavorful).
Recipe
5 cups of sugar or your choice
3 nice size vanilla beans
Sugar and Vanilla Beans…YUM
Add your sugar to a mixing bowl, then on your cutting board slit your vanilla bean vertically and with the tip of your knife scrape out all the gorgeous black seed goodness and place it in the bowl, continue that process with all of the beans. Now using your clean hands work the bean seeds through the sugar (you could put it in a food processor and give it about 10 pulses also). After the seeds are distributed through out the sugar, pour into a pretty glass or mason jar with a tight seal. Before you seal it, add the bean pods and tuck them into the sugar for much extra flavor. Let the sugar sit for at least once a week.
I am CERTAINLY going to do this…Will share your link when I do.. : )
Love that! Your blog always makes me hungry! That’s a good thing, your recipes and pictures are scrumptious looking!
Have a great day…
I bet this would be heavenly sprinkled on top of Martha’s crumb cake that you had on Friday’s blog…yummy!
It looks beautiful and delish!!
