I think your mystery piece is a butter bell. Thanks for hosting!

Your mystery find is not a garlic dish, it’s a “butter bell.”

You fill the TOP half (the part with the small holes) with butter. Soften it just enough so that you can pack it in tightly, about two-thirds full. Then add water to the BOTTOM half to a depth that takes the water level to just ABOVE the level of the lip of the top half when it is inverted and put back into the bottom half. Turn the top half upside down and put it in the bottom half.

The water in the bottom “seals” the container so that no air can get in. You can then leave it on your kitchen table or counter top without refrigerating the butter. We have a butter bell and use it always. It’s lovely to have soft butter without having to buy the stuff that’s whipped up with air. The butter stays fresh for a long time without refrigeration. The only time we can’t use the butter bell is in the heat of summer when the room temperature makes the butter too soft to stay in the top when it’s turned upside down.

What sweet treasures for $5!! I think the second piece might have been for storing butter. I have a new one that is similar, except it doesn’t have holes, so maybe garlic. Have a lovely weekend! xo Heather

Thank you my dear sweet friend! You are so incredible and kind for the feature 🙂 I love the plate you found – the colours in it are amazing, and if you decide to mosaic it instead, I can only imagine how beautiful the creation will be. And Backgammon – I haven’t played that in years! Junkin Joe has a way of taking me back 😉
    Big hugs to you!

Thanks for featuring my coffee table! I LOVE seeing what everyone else is finding in their treasure hunts! I was just telling my husband that I wanted a new backgammon set – we’re so plugged into our electronic games now that I miss our old fashioned play time. xo!
