Well we have been waiting for the beautiful weather and now it is finally here. So the gardening has begun and that means a few things…lot’s of hard work…adding tons of beauty to our outdoor space…cultivating vegetables and herbs that will reward our taste buds in the near future and dirty hands! Yep…that dirt can be a bit tough on the hands so we have a little Gardener’s Scrub DIY for you today that will treat your hands with the love they deserve!

The process is so easy!
–
–
First you get a nice size bowl and scoop into it 1/4 cup of *softened organic coconut oil, the zest and juice of a large lemon. With a fork…whisk all of the ingredients together until nice and smooth. *to soften your coconut oil…just place the jar in warm water for a little bit so it is pliable and easy to work with.
–
–
Now fold in 1/2 cup of liquid hand soap (I used Tom’s of Maine Unscented Hand Soap) the reason I used this one is because it all natural and none of the products are tested on animals and that is important to me…this is not a sponsored post…just suggesting something that I love to use : ). Mix the soap into the coconut and lemon mixture. Then take the leaves of about 5 stalks of Thyme and fold in.
–
–
Now add 1 1/2 cups of Epsom Salts which has many natural benefits some of which are soothing the body… removing toxins …reducing inflammation and much more. Along with the Epsom Salts…add 1/2 cup of Kosher Salt and stir till everything is nicely combined. If it is a little too thick…add a bit more liquid soap and if you like it with a bit more grit…just add a bit more Epsom Salts. If you like a bit more aroma…you can now add about 5 drops of lemon essential oil. I personally enjoy more of a natural smell…but I know many of you like it a bit more heightened and those few little drops will do just that for you! It’s that easy!

Now for a finishing touch…you can top it off with a sprinkle of lemon zest and a sprig of thyme (perfect when gift giving). Then of course you need a pretty little label…especially if you are gifting this and wow does this make a great gift! We have made a label especially for you that is perfect for this scrub. Mason Jars have 2 sizes and we have included both. Just print…cut and place in the inner ring…then the lid and screw on. You can add a touch of twine and maybe a little spoon or scoop! Perfect! You can get your free printable labels by downloading them right here.
In case you would like the recipe all in one…here you go! Maybe you would enjoy my Coconut Lemon Lime Face Scrub too!

- Zest of 1 Large Lemon
- Juice of 1 Large Lemon
- Leaves of 5-6 stems of fresh Thyme
- 1½ cup of Epsom Salts
- 1 cup of Kosher Salt
- ¼ cup of Organic Coconut Oil
- ½ cup of Natural Liquid Soap
- Optional:
- 5 drops of Lemon Essential Oils
- Combine Softened Coconut Oil with the juice and zest of 1 large lemon till smooth
- Add the liquid soap and the leaves of Thyme and blend
- Add the Epsom Salts and Kosher Salt and combine well
- At this point you can decide if you want more liquid or salt and add sparingly. It is a personal preference.
- Speaking of personal preferences...at this point you can add approximately 5 drops of Lemon essential oil if you like a bit more aroma but it is totally your choice. I personally like it just the way it is : )
- Time to pack this up in a nice Mason Jar or Jar of choice. I used a 12 ounce jar and it was filled to the tippy top! So you can use whatever sizes you would like!
- Print out your labels...cut and assemble
- If you would like to add twine or ribbon with a little spoon...now is the time!
- Viola...you now have a fabulous scub for the gardener in your life...but if truth be told...it is wonderful for anyone with dirty hands including the kids!
