Apple Cheddar and Bits Homemade Dog Biscuits!
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups of white flour (you could use all whole wheat flour if you would like)
1 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour
1 large egg
2 tablespoons of softened butter
2 tablespoons of olive oil
8 ounces of grate sharp cheddar (you can use whatever cheese you would like EXCEPT for BLUE CHEESE…DOGS…MOLD cheeses are harmful to your dog!)
1 large apple peeled and grated (make sure there are not pits : )
2 tablespoons of dried parsley …if using fresh…3 tablespoons of finely sliced parsley3 tablespoons of bacon bits…yes…our doggies can have a bit of bacon…just because we are vegetarians doesn’t mean they can’t indulge : ) I used pre-made bacon bits…but you can fry some up and break it up if you like : )
1 cup of milk
(save a little bit of cheese…bits and parsley to sprinkle on top : )
Directions:
Place the egg…butter and olive oil into your mixer bowl and whip together…add the milk and mix a bit more…now add the flours…slowly…then add the grated apple…cheese…parsley and bacon bits. Your dough should be nice and smooth…pliable and ready to roll! If it is too dry…add a little touch of water or milk and if it is too sticky…add a little bit more flour! Now sprinkle some flour on your board or counter so the dough does not stick and roll out half of the dough (approximately 1/4″ thick) then what I did was sprinkled a little bit more cheese…bits and parsley on top and give it a few rolls so everything sticks. Now it is time to cut out your shapes…large…small…medium…whatever you want for your pup or pups! I will tell you that I got over 75 1 inch stars and 1 dozen bones from the recipe…that’s a nice amount of treats!   Place them on your lightly coated baking sheet or you can use parchment to line it and pop them into a pre-heated 375 degree oven for 20 – 30 minutes. (Every oven is different) They should be golden and nicely browned on the bottom : ) I made some of mine a little bit more crunchy for Basil and then some a little less crunchy for Pops… so leave them in till they are deeply golden for the real crunchy ones!!!  Take them out…allow them to cool and now they are ready to serve up to your best friend! Store them in an air tight container. I like to keep them in the fridge since they are homemade and they will keep in the fridge for 2 weeks. You can also bag them up in little freezer bags and pop them out any time…you can keep them in the freezer for up to 6 months! Trust me…they will never last that long! Hope your doggy wags up a storm for these homemade doggie treats and you don’t have to be afraid to taste them yourself! They are actually tasty!
BONE Appetit!

Thank you for this recipe…I like the idea that I can make these crunchy or softer…I have an older dog and he’s lost some of his teeth (maybe b/c of hard treats…or just old..??) and this would work for us…thank you so much for sharing this with us and I’m going to have to make some after I make a trip to the grocery store….
Great recipe! Can’t wait to try it out today! Thanks!♥
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe!
My Super Dog loves cookies made on this recipe:
Ingredients:
6 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/2 Tbsp baking soda
1 tbsp ground ginger
2 tsp cinnamon
3/4 c applesauce
3/4 c molasses
1/2 c honey
1/4 c vegetable oil
1 egg, beaten
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.Combine all of the ingredients in your mixer with a dough hook. Turn it out onto a floured surface and roll it out to 1/4 inch thick.
Cut it with cookie cutter or simply with a pizza cutter. Place them on cookie sheets and poke each in the center with a fork.
Bake for 8 minutes and turn oven off, keeping oven door closed. Let the treats sit in the oven until hard about 1-2 hours.

So if I’m using whole wheat flour, am I using 1 1/2 cups or 3? I’m confused by the ingredient list.
I am very sorry that I confused you…many apologies…what I am saying is I used 1./2 and 1/2 so I used 1 1/2 cups white and 1 1/2 cups wheat. If you would like to use ALL wheat and no white…they you will need 3 cups. I sure hope that clarifies it for you and I am so very sorry. Wishing you the best. hugs…
Hi, thanks for the recipe. I will try is this week. My begal, Hugo is kind of picky and I have tried other recipes. I will let you know how he like them. Also, I live in Mexico and have a hard time finding whole wheat flour. Can I just use regular flour?
Thanks for you input
Elsa
Hi Elsa!!! You can absolutely use white flour, and I cannot wait to hear how Hugo enjoys them!!!! Have a wonderful weekend and give Hugo a hug for me!!!! — Take Care
I want to know if I just use white flour do I use 3 cups of flour or 1/12 cups
Hi there! How are you : ) If you are just using white flour…you would use 3 cups : ) If you have any other questions…you can always reach me at TheCottageMarket@gmail.com any time! : ) always happy to answer any questions you have! ENJOY! hugs…
So sweet to provide us the simple recipe and attached a video to watch. Due to your helpful post, I succeed making the “Apple Cheddar and Bits Homemade Dog Biscuits” for my dog Kyle. Happy to see him eat up and keep healthy.
These look amazing! My dogs love everything that’s in them so I’ll be making them this winter (baking helps keep the house warm).
Thanks for this recipe! I made these for my pit bull mix and she absolutely loves them! I’m also giving these away for the holidays for the other pups in my life 🙂 Thank you!
Oh Vanessa…you made me SO HAPPY!!!!! I am so glad that your precious little pibble loved these treats and what an honor to have them given as gifts! Thank you for making my day and you give that beautiful fur baby a BIG hug from me and my family ok!!!! We will have some new recipes for pups REALLY soon…so stay tuned! : ) Hugs to all!!!
I made these for my dogs and they loved them. I substituted 1 cup of dried apple instead of the fresh apple. I made them as a Christmas present for my daughter’s dog and he loved them too. My Lexie, who is 12 years old, sits under the table waiting every time she smells them cooking. Thanks for the great recipe!!! I will continue making them for my puppies.
Oh Debbie! Thank you so so so much for sharing this with me…it makes me so very HAPPY to hear that your little Lexie loves them! I love the idea of dried apples : ) I can just see her sitting under the table waiting for a treat…how precious is that. So happy that your daughters pup loves them too! YAY!!!! It’s nice knowing exactly what is in what they are eating : ) Please give the pups a BIG BIG HUG from me and here’s wising you ALL a Spectacular NEW YEAR!!! HUGS to all…
I made these and my kids wanted to eat them as much as our dog. They really did look delicious. Now I have to make some cookies for the kids to keep them happy! Our pup loved them so we’ll keep making this recipe, it’s a keeper.
Made these today.. OMG my dogs LOVED THEM and after trying the first one stayed to get another instead of going to their beds. LOL The only thing I did differently was cook 3 strips of bacon and I used the bacon grease instead of adding butter/oil to the recipe. Figured why not use it up, it’ll add even more bacon flavor and I figured it’s still healthier than the store bought, processed stuff I’ve been buying them. I LOVED your directions.. how to make them harder or softer… how to store them… That was VERY helpful and you don’t usually get that in recipes. Thank You.. I will be making these regularly for my doggies. 🙂
I AM SOOOOOOOOOO Happy that they loved them!!! That truly makes me happy. We are the biggest animal lovers and anything that makes them happy brings a smile to our faces. The reason I used the bacon chips is because we are vegetarians and I don’t even handle meat… but that was a good thing that you did and I am sure those pups LOVED that extra something something : ) Please give those doggies a BIG HUG from everyone in my family and thank you so much for sharing. Also happy that the extra tips were helpful! Take care now and have an amazing day!!! Hugs!
Hi there, I was wondering for this recipe can I use beef bone broth instead of milk? TIA
Hi there Tammy… yes… you could use that instead of milk 🙂 Hope your pups love them! They have been a very popular recipe for a number of years now! Enjoy! Sending hugs to you and the pups!
Hi there Andrea, i made this delicious recipe before but this time around I was wondering if I switched it up a bit and add 1/2 of finely chopped spinach and finely grated carrots.. do I need to add that 1 cup of milk? Could it make my dough too moist? TIA and btw my dogs loved it sooo much! Thank u for sharing this awesome recipe!
Hi there Tammy! How are you and I am so happy that your pups enjoy this recipe! OK… if you add the carrots and the spinach… I would most probably cut the milk down to 1/2 cup because they will add more moisture. The dough should be nice and pliable and easy to roll… so feel it as you go along. It is best to start with less because you can always add but not the other way around! Let me know how it goes!!!! Sending hugs to all!!!! Have an Amazing Holiday Season! Extra Hugs for the pups!
I can’t wait to make these, I’m sure my dog will absolutely love them. Thank you for sharing such great recipes. http://www.kelownaasbestosremoval.ca
I made these biscuits and they smelt amazing I was tempted to eat them. However my dog did not want to even try them. She is usually biscuit crazy, cheese and liver being her favourite, but for whatever reason she was not impressed by these. Any idea what I could add to the recipe to make them more appealing?
Hi there Alex! How are you! I am so happy that you made the biscuits but I am very unhappy that the pup didn’t care for them. Every dog I have given them to including my Poppa’s Pizza Biscuits always loved them. The only thing that I can think of is for the liquid use a broth? Or… maybe dip the biscuit in broth before you offer it to the doggie? I will think about it more… but maybe that would work! Please give your pup a big hug from me! Sending my best wishes for you and yours to have an amazing week!
