I wanted to share this with you so you know how National Mutt Day came about and the importance of spreading the word to OPT TO ADOPT!!!! This information comes directly from the Official Page. Visit the website for more information!
National Mutt Day, also known as National Mixed Breed Dog Day, was created in 2005 by Celebrity Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert and Animal Welfare Advocate, Colleen Paige, (also founder of National Dog Day, National Cat Day, National Puppy Day & many more) and is celebrated on both July 31st and December 2nd. National Mutt Day is all about embracing, saving and celebrating mixed breed dogs. The biggest percentage of dogs euthanized in due to the constant over-breeding and public desire of designer dogs and pure bred puppies that are sold to pet stores supplied by puppy mills that often produce ill and horribly neglected animals.
This special day was created to be celebrated on two dates per year to raise awareness of the plight of mixed breed dogs in shelters around the nation, to educate the public about the sea of mixed breed dogs that desperately await new homes and to celebrate the mazing breeds thst make up your fur child’s lineage.
Mixed breed dogs tend to be healthier, better behaved, they live longer and are just as able to perform the duties of pure bred dogs – such as bomb and drug sniffing, search and rescue and guiding the blind. There are millions of loving and healthy mixed breed dogs sitting in shelters, who are desperately searching for a new home. One of the country’s most famous movie dogs is Benji, is a mixed breed Terrier.
So please visit your local shelter and find a new friend today! If you can’t adopt a mixed breed friend on
July 31st or December 2nd, please donate at least $5 to your local animal shelter, as they all need financial assistance and every dollar counts! You can also volunteer to walk a dog, donate food and other supplies needed to your local animal shelter or make a donation in the memory of a loved dog who has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
ADOPT A MUTT! PLEASE SPAY & NEUTER YOUR PETS!
We would like to introduce our two little Mutts Alie and Georgia…they are rescued sisters from our Local Shelter. There are so many waiting to be adopted…why not surprise one or maybe go for two! These two saved our family …we were in such deep mourning over the loss of our precious Poppa and Basil and these two little girls saved us. Our hearts are still broken but Alie and Georgia make every day much brighter. Remember…there are no replacements…only additions to our hearts! We make regular contributions of food…treats…blankets etc… to our local shelter in honor of our Angels. Maybe see if there are items that your Shelter needs…the appreciate everything. It’s a great way to help…you know when we say we really want to help but don’t know what to do…this is one thing you can do…or maybe volunteer to walk dogs…you can make a difference! : )
Did I mention they LOVE each other and had to be adopted as a pair!!! Can you see why : )
Now it is time to SHOW US YOUR MUTT/MUTTS (all other doggies are welcome too : )
Here are your free printables! Sure hope you enjoy them …share them with family and friends!
