These New 2021 Home Decor Trends will totally inspire you. They are fresh… fun… budget friendly and are easily adapted into many different Home Decor Styles!
One of the things that 2020 gave us is a whole new appreciation of our homes! How much they mean to us and how it is a space to bond with family, pets and more. Entryway’s became more welcoming, Living Rooms seemed a bit more homey, and Kitchens got a few more gizmos and gadgets because so much cooking is being done at home! Many rearranged rooms making them useful for multiple purposes like homeschooling… home offices… Family gaming and the list goes on. Bottom line… Home has become even more important than ever and much more appreciated.
Well I think the Home trend is going to continue on strong in 2021… so I thought it would be fun to look at a few of the new General Home Decor Trends and then next week… we will check out some Farmhouse Trends!
Friluftsliv
What is this you ask??? I bet you reacted to it like you did to the word Hygge! Well Friluftsliv is all about a Norwegian concept that encourages an open-air living experience! It encourages all of use to live real life outdoor adventures and to spend quality time with family and friends outdoors! It is also being adapted in home decor by bringing the outdoor indoors. More decorating with plants that clean the air while giving us an inner zen. Bringing in natural elements is another wonderful way to connect with Nature! Then of course creating little Sanctuaries outdoors where friends and family can gather and be able to socially distance but still feel close to each other. Then of course when we are all mask free (sure hope that happens by Fall) we can still socialize in our outdoor space forever! Use your imagination to add a bit of Friluftsliv into your life in your amazing style!

They took their yard and turned it into a Modern Bohemian Style Sanctuary where friends and family gather for all different occasions and just for fun! Plus you can retreat to this space with a cocktail or your favorite cup of brew and read that book you have been dying to sink into. Come on over… there is so much to see and then explore the blog… there are so many other outdoor ideas including creating your own outdoor theater. They have inspired us to create one of our own and I have a feeling they will do the same to you! I also have to add… they have teens and it has helped immensely to allow them to socialize with their friends safely. Enjoy!

Even a smaller space can be a quaint… charming… inviting getaway. Come and see how the oh so talented Liz converts her concrete patio into a Outdoor Farmhouse Gathering Space where Sweet Tea and Lemonade is always being served!
Decorating with Plants – My Tasteful Space
By simply adding a variety of plants… some big… some small… some in between… you can create your own outdoor indoor space. This office area looks so fresh… open and fun and it didn’t take much. Add some plants to your floor… shelves… wall… desk and more and reap the benefit of wellness! WARNING… if you have Pets… PLEASE… I repeat PLEASE do your research on Pet Safe Plants… check with the ASPCA Site with the plants name and they will tell you. It is so very important.
Grandmillennial
Grand millennial is a big trend amongst the mid 20’s to late 30’s something. It’s all about mixing vintage with modern to the max creating a space that is filled with personality! It’s all about texture, chintz, toile, fringe, drapes, ruffles, wallpaper with large floral patterns, embroidered tea towels and so much more! It’s like having a hip Grandma space! We will explore this style in depth in an upcoming post. So many of you love vintage and modern… so it is a perfect subject for everyone!
Grand millennial Style – The Detroit News
Here’s an example of a perfect blend of vintage and modern. Bold floral wallpaper… large moulding… crystal chandelier that compliments a Farmhouse Cottage table along with Mid-Century Modern Chairs. A bit of crystal and candles add even more personality.
Granny with a touch of Modern – The Glam Pad
What a great example of this style. It’s like 3 generations melding together for a brand new home decor style. You have the traditional old style Dining Room that is topped with a modern light fixture… a fabulous Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Counter that has a cozy little sitting section right by it so people can sit and chat with the cook! Wallpaper, a vintage rug and some other accessories top it off!
Granny’s Parlor – Pinterest
Some people go full Grandma with a little twist… like a vintage mirror gallery wall! We all know what Granny Squares are and this room reminds me of a Granny Square Blanket. Tons colors, doilies, textures and surprises. This space is totally reminiscent of Grandma for sure. The possibilities are endless.
Embrace Botanicals
2021 is going to be filled with tons of bright flower/botanicals. From Wallpaper to Drapes to Bedspreads to Tablecloths to Murals and Artwork plus!
Botanical Wallpaper – Fabricum
Wallpaper can truly bring a room alive. So many of us are working at home right now… wouldn’t it be refreshing to have a wall of greenery blooming in front of your eyes by your desk! A real refresh! You can choose to wallpaper and entire room or just a feature wall. One or the other is a great idea and the selection out there is amazing and endless!
Floral Wallpaper Mural – Pinterest
How amazing is this! Talk about adding a pop of color and some drama to a space. I also think that counts bringing the outdoors in too! The selection out there is endless and I know you will have fun finding the perfect one. Check out Etsy… they have a lot of great wallpapers!
Floral Drapes – Anthropologie
Woven, Cane, Rattan, Wicker, Natural Fiber, Grasscloth and more!
Anything woven adds a ton of texture and character to a space. Rattan, Wick, Cane and Grasscloth have all made a huge resurgence… I have a whole collection of incredible IKEA Hacks on the subject that you might want to check out. Woven items also blend wonderfully into so many different Home Decor Styles. Check out some of these ideas…
Woven Planters – Urban Outfitters
Super simple way to add the texture of cane or wicker is by adding some fabulous planters. I personal love them when they are grouped in 3 or 4 in different sizes.
Thrifted Wicker Chair – Liz Marie
Adding a piece of Upcycled Vintage Wicker to your Farmhouse Space is a stroke of genius. The one and only Liz Marie (Queen of all things Farmhouse) literally brought a Thrifted Wicker Chair back to it’s shining glory for under $15… I highly suggest you drop by and see how she did it… you never know!
Beach House Entryway – One Kings Lane
You can also add a touch of texture with a Natural-Fiber Rug. It’s light… airy and creates a care free feeling in the space.
Wicker Basket – Charish
Adding wicker texture can be as simple as adding a beautiful wicker basket to the Entryway or Kitchen or Bathroom. EZ PZ and will look amazing every time.
Reimagine A Space
Small Space Home Office – BHG
Tons of people scrambled for space to work in. Many had an office and just made some changes… some have studios… but many people that work outside of the home had no space and many have no extra space so one has to improvise. I really like this very smart… space efficient… budget friendly idea… add a drop leaf table by the island in the Kitchen. When you are done you can close things up so there is more walking room… but when it is time to work… you have a place to go!
One Room Challenge – Post Box Designs
Many people are now doing Virtual Learning with their children. Some are Homeschooling. The bottom line is they need space to conduct their work. I found this space very inspirational because if you have a wall… you can create a classroom situation on a friendly budget. a table… 3 chairs… accessories and items to personalize. The possibilities are simple unlimited. You could hang Bulletin Boards above each space… Pegboard for supplies… shelving… artwork and the list goes on! Hope you are inspired!
