Come and check out these helpful tips for Self-Care for Homeowners. Everyone should practice in a little self-care these days and all homeowners deserve a little pampering!
Moving is one of life’s five most stressful events. If you’ve just bought and settled into a new home, then you know just how true this statement is. But being a homeowner shouldn’t be something that weighs on you forever. Your home should become your sanctuary, and it can start to feel that way once you get into a self-care routine. In fact, your abode is the perfect backdrop for a bit of “you” time. Here are our favorite methods for self-restoration.
1. Stock Your Craft Drawer
You’ve probably seen adult coloring books on the shelves at your local craft store. And if you’ve laughed them off in the past, it might be time to consider giving them a second look.
When you sit down and focus on a coloring book page, your mind has less of an ability to wander. Instead, you’re focused on the present task — picking colors and keeping them inside of the lines. That’s why experts say that coloring has similar therapeutic effects as meditation. It grounds you in the present, which is relaxing to your mind and body.
So, pick up a few grown-up coloring books and leave them in your living room. When you relax in the evening, you can color them in to really quiet your mind.

2. Limit Your Screen Time
It’s not just the kids who need their screen time managed. If you’ve got screens in every room of your home, you might consider limiting how much time you spend looking at them, too.
This is especially true at night, since the blue light emitted by such devices can interrupt your sleep schedule. Make a point to create a bedtime routine that has you putting down your devices at least a half-hour before you snooze. That way, you can wind down in the proper lighting, which will signal to your brain that it’s time for some shut-eye.
3. Create an In-Home Spa
Another form of self-care is, of course, treating yourself to a spa day. Now, that doesn’t quite mean you need to renovate your house and build a treatment center. Instead, you can look at a spa’s service list and use it to inspire the ways you’ll pamper yourself at home.
For example, let’s say you want a facial. You might not be able to give yourself a full hour-long enzyme peel, but you can pick up a peeling face mask and post-treatment moisturizer to lock in the glow. Relaxing with a mask on feels luxurious, and it will certainly help you chill out, no matter what to-dos you have on your homeowner list.
4. Grab a Journal
Slip a journal onto your bedside table and voila: you have an outlet for all of your house-related frustrations. If thoughts of your household to-dos keep you up at night, a journal’s a great tool for getting them out of your mind.
Studies have found that writing about stressful or traumatic experiences can actually help you work through them. So, put a journal next to your bed to clear your mind before you sleep. Then, your house will return to being the sanctuary it’s meant to be.
Care For Yourself and Your Home
As we said, your house should be a place that relaxes you. And a solid self-care routine can make your life as a homeowner feel as sweet as it should.
So, try any one of these four methods to help you re-center and relax yourself. Soon enough, your abode will be that peaceful place you’ve always wanted it to be — and you will have no problem leaving that to-do list ‘til tomorrow. Now, it’s time to chill and enjoy your space.
