Small Kitchen Resets That Make a Big Difference with easy, no-stress ideas to make your kitchen feel calmer fast.
Hi there friends. Hope your week is going nicely! If there is one room in the house that seems to get disheveled a bit quicker than any where else… it’s the kitchen. That is where everyone gathers, where meals happen, where snacks meals are made,, and where life just seems to land throughout the day. (A little note for those that work from home… why is it that those crafting supplies or your laptop always seem to make it to the kitchen each and every day lol). Bottom line is your kitchen is in use continuously and it is very hard to keep up with it! You are in the company of everyone that has a kitchen!
I know for me, the kitchen can go from feeling cozy while sipping on some tea to feeling overwhelming in no time at all. Some days I walk in and think, I was just in here… how did this happen so fast? The good news is, your kitchen doesn’t need a deep clean or a major reorganization to feel better again. Most of the time, it just needs a few small resets that help it feel calmer and easier to work in.
Here are a few simple ideas that have help me when I want my kitchen to feel a little more put together without turning it into a big project.
Clear One Small Area
You don’t need to tackle the entire kitchen. Just pick one spot… maybe a corner of the counter, the coffee area, or the space near the sink. Straighten a bit… that way when your eye takes in the space there is some calm and it makes things feel less chaotic! It only takes a few minutes.
Group Like Things Together
When items are scattered, the kitchen feels busier than it really is. Take a minute to group things that belong together… mugs in one spot, oils and spices in another, fruit in a bowl instead of spread out. It doesn’t have to be perfect… it just has to make sense to you. One of the things that I did was make my own low Oil, Vinegar Spice stand. That way the items I use every day are right there arranged in one area and look pretty. You simple make what would be considered a cake plate. Take a pretty dish and a complimentary bowl… use E6000 glue and glue the bottom of the bowl to the bottom of the dish and let set for 24 hours… then place the Vinegar, Oil and favorite spices on it and voila! Looks pretty, all in one spot, organized and ready to use! Something that easy and inexpensive can make a world of difference!
Refresh One Small Detail
Sometimes all it takes is changing out a hand towel, swapping a sponge, or maybe putting your dish soap in a pretty decanter. These tiny changes don’t cost much and don’t much time, but they instantly make the kitchen feel fresher and more loved.
Reset the Sink Area
The sink tends to be the heart of the mess. When it’s clear and wiped down, the entire kitchen feels better… even if nothing else is perfect. A quick rinse, a wipe around the edges, put all the dishes away and suddenly things feel manageable again. I am always amazed at what a difference it makes because it does!
Add One Feel-Good Touch
This is my favorite part. A pretty candle, a small plant, how about a digital frame, a vase of flowers, or even a favorite mug left out where you can see it so it reminds you of that yummy cup of brew you will be making yourself later. Little touches like this remind us that our kitchens aren’t just workspaces… they’re places we live in and enjoy. My Mother loved African violets and I am not green of thumb so I am hesitant about having one but… I am getting one for my kitchen and hope to get more if I do well. I know that this simple addition will make me feel that she is with me in the kitchen even more than I all ready do! What I am saying is… that one feel good addition can also have an emotional side too which makes it even more special.
A Gentle Reminder
Your kitchen doesn’t have to look magazine-ready to be a good kitchen. (If it did I would be in a lot of trouble!) It just needs to work for you and feel welcoming enough that you don’t dread walking into it. Small changes truly do make a difference, especially on busy days when energy is limited.
If one of these ideas feels doable today, try it and see how it feels. And if you have a small kitchen habit or trick that helps your space feel calmer, I’d love for you to share it in the comments. We all learn so much from each other. Let’s grow our community!
