An organized laundry room is key to keeping a safe laundry room!
Making Your Laundry Room Functional
What’s a laundry room without some function? Everything needs to serve a purpose!
I’m kind of obsessed with this laundry basket slide-in organizer. It’s so simple, yet genius. Everyone can separate their clothing into lights, darks, delicates, etc. with this easy to use system.

Save some energy and turn the dryer off, with this DIY Drying Rack.
Laundry Room Wall Art
Free printable wall art is one of my favorite things! It makes me feel like the room has more personality when you can look around and see different pictures or wordart on the walls.

Laundry Room Safety Tips
Keep the laundry room door closed whenever possible, and always use a child lock or door knob safety covers.
Have lower cabinets? Always use a child lock on them!
Use non-toxic laundry products whenever possible. It’s easy to make your own non-toxic laundry detergent. While it takes a little extra time, it’s nice to know that you’re using the best products possible and you know all of the ingredients.
Do not leave items directly on top of the washer or dryer. They can be moved around and can shake off onto the floor, spilling; at the very least, they’ll end up within reach of kids and pets.
If you have a wash sink or basin, be sure to empty it before leaving the laundry room each time.
To keep pets and kids safe, you have to keep dangerous products locked up, including laundry detergent, pods, and sheets. Always keep these items in containers with sealed lids, preferably up high so little ones can’t get to them.
If your child ingests laundry detergent or pods, immediately call poison control. If your pet ingests or punctures a laundry detergent pod, or inhales laundry detergent fumes, contact your veterinarian.
Always keep laundry detergent in its original container. Don’t reuse containers for other things that your child might see and think is safe.
Lock your washer and dryer (I like these washer and dryer locks), if that is an option, but make sure it’s empty first. Pets (and toddlers) can climb into the washer or dryer and get stuck!
Last but not least, take a tour from a lower level: how does your dog or child see the laundry room? You’ll probably find some stuff over in the corner that you missed, if you get down on their level.
Anything missing? How do you make sure your laundry room is safe for kids and pets? Let me know in the comments!
