Put Some Wabi-Sani Into Your Farmhouse Home Decor. Many of you have heard of Wabi-Sabi and many of you have not…so here is just a little overview…Wabi-Sabi which is soooooo trending in 2018 Home Decor. It is a Japanese term that represents an entire world view of how imperfections can equal perfection. It’s a theory on how you can find beauty in things that are imperfect or maybe even incomplete. Perfectionists do have trouble with this whole philosophy…but it is certainly an interesting one. The idea comes from the Buddhist teachings of the three marks of existence: impermanence, suffering or unsatisfactoriness, and non-self. Simplicity and Modesty at it’s core. An Organic look and feel at it’s finest. I am very much a symmetrical person…so I thought I would naturally have a hard time with the whole concept of Wabi-Sabi…but some how I do not…I am actually really loving it and wanted to apply it to the Farmhouse Style that so many of you love. So I did a lot of searching and I came up with some Farmhouse Wabi-Sabi Inspirations. From Distressed Woods to Natures Inspirations to Natural Patina to Chipped Enamelware and so much more. So grab that cup of brew…sit back for a bit and enter a very calming and serene Collection of Farmhouse Wabi-Sabi Inspirations. Hope you enjoy this slightly different way of looking at Farmhouse Design.
Let’s start with what I call Pure Farmhouse Wabi-Sabi. I bet Liz Marie wasn’t thinking about this trending style when she created this fabulous Farmhouse Deconstructed Sofa (by the way there is a chair in this post too : )…but she really defined Wabi-Sabi Farmhouse Style to a T! The beauty is in the imperfection of this sofa (ok…it does have 2 perfect dogs on it : ). I just love that everything does not have to be perfect to shine.
What a great way to add that “imperfect perfection” to your Farmhouse Floors! When you are laying down hardwood not every piece has to be perfect…not every slat has to be the exact same shade…every board doesn’t have to be the same length…there is a sense of calm and comfort in a design like this one. Just think of all the options!
Now some might have discarded most of the items in this space…but someone had the foresight to put all the pieces together to form a Weathered Farmhouse space! There are years and years of ware and tear on all of the pieces and it brings out their personality and starts to make you wonder…where have they been…who they were with…all of the items they have held…
I just heard the Cottage Farmhouse Lovers hearts flutter a little!!! Those Lavender Doors have become delightfully distressed over years and year and I think all would agree that no one should give these doors a fresh coat of paint. Then all of the linens are imperfectly folded to perfection. Looking at this I get the warm and fuzzy feeling…I can almost smell a pot of Tomato Sauce that my Grandma would be cooking on the stove. This is also true Farmhouse Wabi-Sabi. Check it out over at My Design Chic!
This is a wonderful way to add a bit of Wabi-Sabi charm to your Farmhouse space…a stone wall. Each stone is different and adds to the personality of the wall. The floors boards here certainly add to this space.
Even something as simple as an old bench and cutting board with all their ware and weathering will add the Wabi-Sabi essence to the space.
So many people would discard an all Saw Horse or an Old Table…but items like these bring out the inner Farmhouse Wabi-Sabi in some of us and in the end you have an amazing creation like this unique desk…a one of a kind. Hate to keep using the phrase “perfectly imperfect” but it sure does fit.
This is a Farmhouse Masterpiece in true imperfect style! Mother Nature is the definition of “imperfect imperfection”…just look at the natural branch…the dried sage leaves…the incredible garlic…wood…all Mother’s Nature’s Bounty. This vignette will give you tons of inspiration to create you own little Farmhouse Wabi-Sabi Space : )
When I saw this Hand-Made Pottery Dish Set on Tumblr…I immediately thought that the imperfections just made this set absolutely gorgeous. Every time you set the table or eat off the plate you will think about the person that made these beauties…it just gives you such an appreciation of every day items. Plus…how Farmtastic are these! I feel like visiting a Potter right now : )
Chippy Paint…a mix of everything yet it gives you that Cozy Cottage Farmhouse feel! I just thought of something…there should be a Thrift Store Called Wabi-Sabi…am I right?
I do believe that every Farmhouse Home should have a stack of these…aged and worn bowls…each one unique…each one beautiful…each one perfect in their own way. Once again…I wish they could talk and tell me what they have been used for…what kinds of foods did they create and hold…who were the families that used them. When they are all stacked together they are perfect and hold so many secrets.
Patina is amazing…the window let’s Nature in…the random postcards form a simple gallery…vintage scissors come together to adorn the wall…hand blown glass graces the floor…living plants grow and they all come together to form a Farmhouse Fantasy Space. Perfect…I think so!
A perfect space to eat that Crusty Bread…maybe a glass of wine or two…has the feel of a Tuscan Farmhouse and all of it’s age shines bright.
Every Farmhouse is always happy to welcome a Clay Pot with an amazing Patina! Of course so many of us can’t find them with Natural Patina…so I suggest just searching on Pinterest for DIY Aged Clay Pots…there are tons of tutorials. Each one will be different and special.
Old…chippy…rusty Enamel Ware can be a great way of sharing some Wabi-Sabi in your Farmhouse. Maybe add a piece to a Kitchen Wall Art Gallery…they are small pieces of Vintage Artwork when displayed with love.
I do believe that the Dough Bowl sums up a Farmhouse Wabi-Sabi Style…each one is unique…each one is hand made …hand carved and loaded with tiny little imperfections that make you love it more and more each time you use it. It’s beautiful, plain or embellished with things you love.
As always here at The Cottage Market we would like to send out tons of APPAWS and APPLAUSE to all of our blogger friends for sharing their talents and creativity with us!
