Are you an avid Costco shopper? Do you also love to shop at BJ’s? You might be shopping there every week, but are you getting the biggest bang for your buck? Buying from Costco and BJ’s can save you money, but only if you’re buying the right stuff. Here is what to buy from Costco & BJ’s that can save you money… every single time!
What to Buy From Costco & BJ’s That Can Save You Money
Peanut Butter
How many times have you gone to the store and bought peanut butter? When it’s not on sale, it can be pretty costly. Buying large amounts of peanut butter at Costco can be something that can really save you money. I don’t know about you, but we eat a lot of peanut butter around here. Getting the Two Pack insures that you always have Peanut Butter on hand at an excellent price.
Maple Syrup
One of my favorite items to buy from Costco that can save you money is maple syrup. Since I do a lot of baking and prefer to use natural ingredients where I can, maple syrup is a staple in our home. It can be super expensive from the regular store, so being able to buy it in bulk and save money is huge for my family. Natural Maple Syrup can be a real Budget Breaker… but the savings are Big Time at Costco.
Half Sheet Cakes
How many times have you paid a ton of money for a birthday cake for your kids? While making a large cake is cheapest, it’s not always something you have time for. Buying a sheet cake from Costco can be a huge money saver, but also a time saver. They have great cakes for very reasonable price and you can let our imagination run wild decorating it! Think about obtaining some beautiful edible flowers and create a beautiful design. Be sure to purchase Flowers that are edible and organic. We are going to have a post on them soon so be sure to tune in. You can make or purchase a fabulous Cake Topper… a sure bet each and every time. If you have piping cake decorating skills the cake is your blank canvas. If you have a chocolate sheet cake… how about dipping some Strawberries to decorate with… add a few Roses and it’s magic. Sprinkles are gold when you are decorating a Kids Cake. Simply cover the entire cake with sprinkles and awesome candles… or maybe add a cool Dinosaur… My Little Pony… or whatever and everyone will be happy. There are a million and one things you can do to make the cake your own with little work and great savings. The price is under half and sometimes even more than a Bakery!
Baby Spinach
Baby Spinach can get really pricey and if you make lots of salads for you and your family the price can add up. The Baby Spinach is fresh, organic and stays for awhile as long as it is sealed tight! A great savings for sure.
Pure Vanilla Extract
If you love to bake be sure to take advantage of the Pure Vanilla Extract, it is cheaper than Imitation Vanilla Extract in your local Super Market.
Sundried Tomatoes
If you love to add Sundried Tomatoes to your Salads, or if you enjoy a great Pesto or you just love to add them to your sandwiches or eat them as a snack, you can’t go wrong purchasing a bottle of these delicious beauties! Oh, when you are done with the bottle, save the infused oil to make Salad Dressings!
Wine and Liquor
At Costco all of their Fine Liquors, Top Shelf and Wines are very reasonably priced and cheaper than most other Stores. So if you are having a party or you just enjoy a glass of wine in the evening, this is the place to go. They do have a wonderful selection. I can’t personally speak for my BJ’s Liquor selection because mine does not have an Alcohol Section.
Dried Fruit
Dried Fruit is very reasonable and if you suffer from a Craisin Addiction like I do, you will save tons! Once again, if you buy large amounts of dried fruit be sure to store them properly with an air tight seal. Mason Jars are great and they look awesome on the shelf!
Fruit Snacks
Natural Fruit Snacks for the kids lunches are a great price and something that will get used every day. A box of 40 packs is a great savings and is gone in a snap depending on how many lunches you are packing. Plus you need a few for you too!
Kirkland Hazelnut Spread
Kirkland has their own Hazelnut Spread that is so very close to Nutella at almost half the price. So if you love the stuff but don’t get it often because of the price, give it a try! By the way Nutella is still cheaper ounce per ounce at Costco than it is at the Grocery Store. Unfortunately BJ’s does not have their own brand of Hazelnut Spread but the savings on Nutella is still good!
Cereal
If you have a large family or if you use a particular Cereal every day, buying the two pack Cereal Boxes is well worth the money. You will save at least $3-$4 on your purchase.
Spices
If you use a lot of spices or a particular spice, ounce for ounce they are cheaper for sure. The only thing is they are usually sold in bulk and may go stale before you use them all. A good idea is share them with a friend or family member. Hop on over to our free Printable Herb Labels… put half of the herbs in a mason jar sealed tightly and both of you can enjoy! You really do save a lot! Hey, you just might use a lot of some spices so you can really rack up some savings.
Almonds
Almonds are a great bargain. You can get a three pound bag for under $15 which is considerably cheaper than any Grocery Store Price and they are a great quality. So if you like to indulge in healthy snacks or you love to bake… snatch up a bag and remember to keep them sealed tight. They are also incredible when you dip half of the almost in Chocolate, or how about baking them with your favorite spices. Walnuts are also a great bargain.
Domino Sugar
If you are a baker or use sugar on a regular basis snatching up a 10lb bag of Domino Sugar is a good thing and you save. Domino Sugar is one of the only White Sugars out there that is VEGAN, most people think White Sugar is Vegan but it is not because most of the sugars are whitened with bone char. Good to know if you are living a Vegan or Vegetarian life style.
Fill Up the Tank
You have to be a Costco member to full up your gas tank there, which is awesome. It’s a great way to save money as well. You can always save a few cents by buying your gas from Costco because they offer savings to their members. Always fill up your gas tank while you’re at Costco, so you don’t have to keep driving back and forth.
These are just a few items you can buy to save you money, but there are many more! Here is a list of what to buy from Costco that can save you money.
- Toilet paper
- Paper towels
- Baby formula
- Baby diapers
As you can see, there are a lot of good things to buy from Costco that can save you money. Typically items that are non-perishable do really well or items that your family uses up quickly. What are your favorite money saving items to buy from Costco?

Hi there Julie! How are you my friend. Hope all is well in your world. Yep… most people do not know that but it is true! I have no attachment to Domino… but I will promote their company anywhere I can for taking ethical measures in the production of their “sweet” product! Sending hugs and wishes for an amazing day!
